Sign-up - Honda Extreme Makeover with Duragloss! (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/sign-up-project-cars-clinics/54642-sign-up-honda-extreme-makeover-duragloss.html)

Coming up this Thursday I'll have my fiancé's daughter's Honda here for and extreme makeover and anyone that lives local is welcome to stop by and test out the new Lake Country Ultra Microfiber pads (http://www.autogeek.net/microfiber-buffing-pads.html) as I buff this car out.

Note: I'll be starting this project just like a normal Thursday Night Live Broadcast project except we're not going to broadcast live.

Here it is in all it's current glory...

The paint is completely flat and dull

If you focus on the hood, there is absolutely zero reflection or reflectivity...

The story I've heard is that this car was wrecked and then repainted at a local body shop. I think it's been about a little over one year since the paint job. Since then NOTHING has been done to the paint that I know of and it certainly looks like nothing has been done to it.

Duragloss Extreme Makeover
Since a polished surface will hold up and last longer in the elements than a textured surface I'm going to machine polish this paint to restore a clear, glossy smooth surface and then coat it with something.

For this project I'll be using the new Ultra Microfiber pads by Lake Country. For chemicals we're going to use products from Duragloss.

I will make a few videos showing the pads at work and of course the transformation of this ugly duckling into a beautiful SwanHonda.

Oh sweet, I've bene waiting to see those new lake country microfiber pads in action! Those civics were great cars, my sister had one, we beat it up!

Your fiances daughter is lucky, she gets a free Mike Philips detail, that should be a prize on the forum, you detail someones car alone, no thursday night crew, make ya really sweat!, I'm jealous of her, she's going to have one shiny ride, especially if you're using optimum products on those new pads!

Coral, Stacy's daughter isn't into cars at all. Like the majority of the population she sees here car as transportation, a way to get from point A to Point B with music and air conditioning.

I know that paint will last longer exposed to the elements if the surface is smooth, shiny and sealed, not textured and porous, so it's my natural instinct to fix it for her and at the same time give me and anyone that wants to join in a chance to test out these pads.

It won't be as fun as polishing something like these but hey, it's all good...

You know what though mike, when you give someone back their daily driver, and they see how shiny and clean it is, there's nothing like that first look they have when they see it after your done giving it a shine!

I am sure she'll love it! Have fun, you know you will. Those civics are fun little cars!

I agree.

Although my preference, like many of you, is to work on k0oL cars, my saying has always been and will always be,

If it's important to the owner it's important to me...

I never veer from my mindset when it comes to detailing cars...

The Mindset of a Professional Detailer (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-expert-featuring-mike-phillips/20551-mindset-professional-detailer.html)

If I take on a project it's because I've already adopted it mentally as my own, no matter what it is...

***Update***

We're going to see what Duragloss can do for this neglected, one-year old paint. We'll see if we can't get the paint to glisten like some of the cars posted above.

I'll be sure to make a couple of videos showing pads, products and process...

I didn't see any bottle of 601. I suspect we won't be seeing the 501/601 combo followed by the 105/601...

Mike, I'll be looking very forward to seeing how it turns out. Thanks for spot-lighting DG products too. If I may be so bold as to suggest that you try the Swirl Remover as it has the most cut from what you have pictured there. It should do well with the new mf pads I would think. The other thing is if you're going to use any other DG product on the paint (501,105,111,etc) that you get some 601. It is designed for that. You can use it individually or combine it 4:1 with sealant:601. I just want you to get the most out of the line. Be sure to use AW with your final wipe; you will love it.

I can't wait to see this myself. Then I'd like to see DG products used on a nice swirled out street rod and get some feedback from Mike afterwards.

Love to have you join us for a project some time, the door is always open here for all pro detailers as well as hobbyist.

I have the 601 just not in the picture as well as 652

I also have the 652 Pre Cleaner #2 just didn't include it in the picture. I have the 561 also and since it's specifically for fiberglass surfaces I'm guessing it's more aggressive than the auto paint products as that's the norm for marine products.

Since most people own new cars and work on newer cars I'm trying to put the focus on newer cars.

Myself?

I like SIV's and I figure anyone smart enough to join a forum and read a thread can figure out that they can use the same pads, products and tools to their newer car that I use on a Special Interest Vehicle.

That said, you'll probably see a mix of newer cars and once in a while a swirled out street rod.

That sure was a nice way of telling me I wasn't smart enough to figure that out, Mike. LOL! I suppose everyone's entilted to have one of those moments per day. LOL! Must have had my head in the sand...sort of like the "egg cartons" huh? He he he.

Nice to see DG getting some pub, not sure if our threads have anything to do with it but I'd like to think they played a part, LOL. Looking forward to the results, wish the car had a color though, talk about a boring color but then again, DG will come through for you!
