hand and machine polishing

I'm new to all of this so I'm sorry if this has been asked before. I tried searching and didn't see anything. I'm curious if when using 5.5" pads on a da on the larger surfaces and then using smaller pads by hand on the narrow areas if it's hard to create a similar look between the areas done by hand and those done by machine? In this scenario will there be a stark difference between the areas done by hand vs machine? Or are the differences subtle enough that it doesn't really matter? I'm probably over-thinking all of this.

It can be done. It will depend on how bad the paint is to start. I would invest in a 3" backing plate and 3" pads for those smaller areas. You'll be glad you did. Then there are the real small tight areas that you still have to get by hand...those usually aren't real visible.
