Looking at purchasing the 6 pack of LC 5.5" flat pads (Lake Country 5 1/2 x 7/8 inch Beveled Edge Pads 6 Pack, foam pad kit, build a kit, buffing pads, curved edge pads (http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-beveled-pad-kit.html)) for a gg6 and I'm curious which pads I should get for the following products:

Ultimate Compound
Ultimate Polish
DG501
DG105 / 601
Collinite 845

I've seen a recommendation of 2 Orange, 2 White, 2 Black but just wasn't sure if that fit with this particular set of products or not.

Don't forget a 5" backing plate if you don't have one. Sounds like a good start, but I would get 4 orange, 4 white and then one black for each different LSP as these should remain dedicated to each particular product. Keep in mind that 501 is difficult to remove from pads. Allot depends on your car and condition of the paint as to what pads you'll use for what product. I'm wondering (perhaps others will comment) if you really need Ultimate Compound and 501 as 501 is an AIO with some light abrasives so it might be redundant.

I should have mentioned that UC & UP and probably the 845 are for one car and the DG products for another.

Compounds = Yellow, orange, white pads (do a test spot to determine which pad is needed)
Polished = Orange or white ( Do a test spot to determine which pad is needed
DG501 = White
DG105/601 = White
845 = White or black or blue

I would keep a couple yellow pads on hand for really neglected paint. Usually orange would be sufficient though. I did a Camaro recently which corrected and finished nicely with just M205 on an orange pad (CCS).

I would definitely order yellow, orange , and white to get yourself started.

Pad or foam densities determine how much or little cut of a particular product. Varying the colors indicated below will improve the finish characteristics using the same product.

Foam Pads

Yellow Cutting Foam - Use this pad to apply compounds or polishes to remove severe oxidation, swirls, and scratches. It is the most aggressive and should only be used on oxidized and older finishes. Always follow this pad with an orange or white pad and a fine polish to refine the paint until it is smooth.

Orange Light Cutting Foam - Firm, high density foam for scratch and defect removal. Use this pad with polishes and swirl removers. It’s an all around pad that will work on most light to moderate imperfections.

White Polishing Foam - Less dense foam formula for the application of waxes, micro-fine polishes and sealants. This pad has very light cutting power so it’s perfect for pre-wax cleaners.

Green Polishing/Finishing Foam - Use this foam to apply one-step cleaner waxes. It is a balance of polishing and finishing that is perfect for all-in-one product application.

Gray Finishing Foam Pad - Composition is firm enough to withstand added pressure during final finishing to remove buffer swirls. It has no cut and will apply thin, even coats of waxes, sealants, and glazes.

Blue Finessing Foam – Pad has soft composition for applying glaze, finishing polish, sealants, and liquid waxes. Flat pad provides full contact with paint surface to minimize the pressure applied by the user.

Red Ultra-soft Wax/Sealant Foam - This soft, imported foam is ideal for applying the final coat of wax or sealant. The foam works especially well when applying liquid waxes or sealants because it is firm enough to keep the majority of the product on the paint, rather than soaking it up. The red foam has no cut or cleaning ability.
