His attention span is about 15 minutes for this stuff right now, but when he's a little older and understands money I'll start paying him like $3-5/hr. When he shows the skill and maturity, I'll turn the business over to him if he wants.

My goal with my detailing business is to give him, and any other of my kids (the other two are girls and may not care), the opportunity to learn work ethic, pride of workmanship, dealing with clients, business operation, etc. so they have the skills in their own endeavors. I have other businesses and have always been business-minded and figure my kids may be the same way, so I want them to have a head start.

My dad passed away when I was just over 4, and he always talked about having a car that he could work on with me. My step-dad was awesome with me and liked cars, but wasn't one to get into fixing things up or rebuilding and modifying like my dad was. My dad built a dune buggy from scratch. His brother can tear apart a whole car and put it back together again, even though his occupation was pharmacist for the first half of his life and network administrator until he retired.

Getting this car back was a dream come true, as I wanted to have a fun car we could work on together. I've been flying high all week. For those who didn't catch my post about finding this car, it's also in the "off topic" page. In a nutshell, I had the car for over 3 years, during which I met, dated, married my wife and even took our favorite wedding picture in it. I sold it for money reasons, always wanted it back, and just found it for sale on Monday morning and bought it Tuesday night. The seller, who bought it from me, had approached me a few years ago to see if I wanted to buy it back, so I thought it was already gone to a new home.
