It is the worse I have ever seen a car swirled, I have it all prepped, clean and clay barred and I have spent the last 3 hours working on the hood trying to figure out how to get it where I want it.

I have got about 85% of the swirls out but now I am running into major halo issues and no matter what I do I can't get rid of them.

What I have used so far is

Chemical Guys v38 with an orange Lake Country CCS pad on a meguairs DA set to about 5.5 speed. And that didn't seem to do to well, so I tried the v36 and that was better but still not as good as I thought it would be. i tried Meguiar's Ultimate Compound with the orange pad and still had some swirls left. I am think about going to go buy some M105 and try that with the orange pad but i dont want to keep working this one area over and over

I then went to a black pad and am using Meguiar's Ultimate Polish and this is where I am getting halos. I am not sure what to do to get rid of these darn things.

Any tips would be very helpful!!!!

Thanks,
Chris

Can you post a picture or two of what you're calling halos? I don't know how you'd get halograms using Ultimate Polish and a DA with a soft pad.

Hi Chris,

Just to make sure I'm reading you right,

1. The products you've tried so far are not getting enough of the deepest scratches out to meet your expectations?

2. Even if you were to settle for the results you're getting, when you try to do the finish polishing with Meguiar's UP you're seeing halos?

I'm going to guess the halos are what we normally call DA Haze or micro-marring?

:)

I am getting most of the swirls out, but there are RIDS and deep ones I can't. But I think it might be this DA micro-marring you are talking about. What can I do to avoid this?

I have worked the sections multiple times, maybe I am over working it, too many passes? with the cG v38 it says to make 4-5 passes till the product is clear, but it doesnt clear in the sense I think clear. Pics incoming

I'd say go and grab some m105, and try it out... Understanding that you don't want to keep working on the same spot, it sounds to me like that is the only option you have left to get the car where you want it to be. This is what I would personally do... Good luck either way!!

Man, that thing is brutalized! That paint is hard and it looks like you didn't fully remove the initial marring, so 105 is the right move.

Subscribing to this thread, wanna see how this all works out, good luck to you, black sucks! People should have to take a test before ordering a car in this color, surely created by Satan himself and IMO its just not a DD color, no matter how good it looks in the showroom its gotta go outside and at some point, it needs to be washed and maintained.......alot, no brush carwashes for sure and a good detail about 3x's a year, for starters! Years ago, when I didn't know better, I had 3 black cars in a row, an 87' Grand National that got repainted when I bought it, an 89' LeSabre T-type that was almost gray from swirls and a 93' Park Avenue Ultra, not as bad as the LeSabre but it was only 5 years old when I got it. I used to wash and wax the cars only, oh man if I only knew then what I know now, oh well, live and learn!

What color pads should I use with the 105 and 205. I have LC CCS in orange, white, black, blue and yellow

I think you need to use a rotary buffer together with Megs 105 to correct those swirls and RIDS. A hardly think that a DA will correct this.

105 = orange pad, 205 = white pad.

Mike can you give me any tips on the DA micro-marring or hazing?

Mike can you give me any tips on the DA micro-marring or hazing?

Fully prime your pad so that the entire face is covered but it is not completely saturated with product. You should still be able to see the texture of the pad but it will all uniformly be the color of the product you are using. Try finish polishing with a fully primed pad with barely any extra product. This will allow the micro-abrasives to uniformly level the paintwork and create a perfect finish (in theory).

Work with the polisher on a lower speed when you finish your section passes. When you are working at a high speed (5-6 on a DA) the orbits create sharp points in the pad movement and can create micro-marring. Using a lower finishing speed will negate this effect.
