Some Tips for PO85rd

HI all,

I have been a big fan of the 3/M Ultrafina for its ease of use and the fact it finishes wet. I use a Flex 3401 polisher with a foam pad. The PO85rd has had a lot of good feedback from my searching all the threads, and wanted to ask if this PO85rd finishes wet and is easy to use like the Ultrafina?

Any tips for switching over? And, what kind of pad would be used for finishing the paint with very minor scratches.

85rd (SF4500) is a diminishing polish..has to be broken down.

PO85RD, from my experience, works best with a Lake Country GRAY or GOLD foam pad. After priming your pad, 3 pea-sized drops of product is all that's needed.

Machine application of PO85rd is pretty straight forward. Low speed (3 or 4 on the 3401), light pressure and medium speed arm movement. For a rotary, you will find that it works best as a "jewelling" polish with the machine set around 600-800 RPM.

If PO85rd isn't worked long enough, it can be difficult to remove. If it's overworked, it can be difficult to remove. After a couple panels you'll get the hang of it and dial in the perfect working time for your application. It's a great polish that provides an exceptionally long working time, especially when used with a rotary.

A lot of people like to use it after a medium/fine cut polish (think Meguiar's 205 or Menzerna SF4000) to take the gloss up another level.

PO85RD is now called SF 4500 and it's an Ultra Fine Cut Polish so it doesn't offer a lot of cut by itself.

If you want to remove fine scratches with it then I would suggest using a foam polishing pad from one of these options,

6.5" Hybrid (http://www.autogeek.net/lake-country-hybrid-pads.html)

6.5" Hydro (http://www.autogeek.net/lc-hydro-tech-foam-pads.html)

6.5" CCS (http://www.autogeek.net/lc-ccs-6inch-pads.html)

And then for finishing or jewelling, again, any of the finishing pads from the above pad lines or in the CCS there is a gold jewelling pad.


Try the 5 setting for the polishing pad and the 4 setting for the finishing step.

my only backing plate is the one that came with my Flex 3401. to take advantage of the 20% sale, I ordered an assortment of 5.5" CCS pads. will this 5.5" work ok? thanks for the tips :xyxthumbs:

Some good info, Got a bottle on the way. Any tips when using with a PC? Main application for me would be finishing/jeweling.
