I was contacted by Christian (therock0720) a fellow forum member looking to get the severe swirls taken care of on his 99 Mitsubishi Eclipse. We worked out a deal that I would give him some training on polishing with a DA and he would help me with the correction. Took him a panel or 2 to get the hang of it, but once he did he was on his own.

The paint was in horrible condition as the previous owner took the car to a swirl-o-matic on a regular basis. Overall we probably got about 80-85% correction. Wish it was better but there was a good amount of RIDS left after a heavy compound with a wool pad and M105.

Products Used:

Dawn - for wheels and tires
Duragloss 901
Wolfs' Chemicals Decon gel
Megs Super Degreaser - 5:1
Speedy Prep Towel
ONR - Diluted to clay lube strength
M105
D300
M205
IPA mixture
Blackfire wet diamond paint sealant
Megs Glass Cleaner
Poorboy's trim restorer
Blue Painter's tape

Equipment Used:

3 - 5 gallon buckets - 1 for wheels & tires
Chenille wash mitts
Many MFs
Various Brushes - daytona wheel brush, tire brush, wheel brush, etc
Flex PE 14-2
PC 7424xp
Wool pads
Red Hydro Tech Pads
White LC CCS pads
Waxing pad - forget the brand

Onto the pics

Not a ton of pics but enough to tell the difference.

It was great to meet Christian and show him how to polish paint. He has some general knowledge of general detailing (cleaning, clay barring, etc) but had never really used a polisher.

Thanks for reading!

Well done! I love the way red cars look after a restoration!

Wow, that came out amazing. How long did the correction take between you two?

It was a 2 step. Some areas different polish pad combo was used.

From start to finish it took approx 7 hours.
