Quite some time ago, I promised a detail to someone I know super cheap. I only a couple cars to do this weekend, so... I was in for a real treat. When you work on high-end or exotics, you tend to forget about how dirty peoples daily drivers can get.

I started getting sad..

The owner also said that it was fairly clean under the hood.. Really?

Just for fun I started with the floor mats.

I though I saw Spectra under all that crap..

Sonax and Meg Wheel Bright on the wheels.

Starting on the engine.
http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg592/mycomputerisjunk/Kia%20Spectra/DSC_0643.jpg

Then moving on the a foam soak.

I was air drying the car and myself since it was 100 degrees+ that day.

I started on the carpet extraction.
http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg592/mycomputerisjunk/Kia%20Spectra/DSC_0648.jpg

I lost track how many dirty tanks I extracted.
http://i1245.photobucket.com/albums/gg592/mycomputerisjunk/Kia%20Spectra/DSC_0649.jpg

Starting to look better now.

Aside from spots where the car had dents, dings, chips and no paint, the rest of the paint was good. Opted for a clay and light Meg205 buff.

It turned out much better.

Nice work, man.

Were those salt stains in the floor mats?

I don't want to be a jerk, but IMO it was a waste of expensive Sonax if you were using WB (WB will take off anything Sonax FE will), and I really wouldn't be walking around barefoot in an area I was using WB in.

Yes, and more like salt rocks.

Indeed, I like to keep my feet. The pressure wash pics were me spraying off the foam. I have never used wheel bright before and was comparing it to Sonax. Like you mentioned, not much difference.

Did you have to go over them more than once?

I had to extract 3 times to get the salt out of the black floor mats in my cousin's 135...and that's with a Mytee Lite. After the first 2 extractions, I let them air dry and the salt magically reappeared. :bash:

The floor mats were mostly rubber and really tough. The extractor was not going to do much to them. So, they were scrubbed with some carpet cleaner and then soaked in APC. I let them sit for some time and then pressure washed them. I would not recommend this for most factory mats.

For the carpet, it was horrible. I soaked the really bad salt spots in APC then extracted. It took quite a few times to get it out. YES, the salt just seemed to keep coming back. I finally got it out after some time.

Great work! I to have promised free/really cheap details to friends when I was in a good mood lol What I usually do now is tell me good friends "If you help, and throw me X amount of dollars to cover product cost, thats all I'll charge you" And plus its a learning experience for them!

I also used APC and it did help but it was soak with Folex that ended up finishing off the salt.

It was only the 3rd time I used an extractor so I figured my technique needed more work but it's a relief to see I wasn't the only one who's had to fight with stubborn salt stains.

Good to know. I will pick some up for next time.
