1974 Nova SS - Challenge Accepted

Customer brought in a straight up classic. 1974 Nova SS and the paint has seen way better days. It is in really rough shape. However, I think it will come out nice.

I wasn't kidding when I said the paint was bad. It's going to need some wet sanding in a few places as well.

I started on a small section in the back to see what I am dealing with. Spent about 2 minutes on it with Meg 105 and 205. It looks promising.

That is a great looking car. I had a friend with a Yenko Nova II that was red in color with the black stripe

Foam soak with Meg Hyper Wash (twice)
Pressure wash
Soak tar with APC
Hand wash using Dawn
Dry with air and microfiber
Iron cut
Hand wash again
Clay
Color correct using Meg 105 and 205
Seal with Zaino (free sample)
Wax

Great job! A Nova is one of the few classic cars I'm really into. Man there is some bad orange peel in some areas though

The paint is really bad. My original thought was to wet sand but after looking closer and getting into it, the paint was just not thick enough.

I owned a 1971 SS when I was younger, sad to say I don't have any pictures that I know of. Never really like driving it or a 1969 Chevelle. Liked the cars and how they looked, just didn't like sitting in them and driving them. Found out I'm kind of a truck guy...

The opportunity to work on real single stage paint, especially on a cool car is becoming very rare now days.

I always recommend anyone with the opportunity to do so...


I also recommend getting the "before" shot before you do anything to the hood or trunk lid for dramatic before and after shots as outlined in my article here,

WOW you did a great job for what you had to work with there, that orange peel was crazy, did you save the SUNKIST sticker, geeeez! That car received an update on its finish, now it just needs an update in the tire/wheel combo, offset of the rear wheels and altitude and it would really stand out and make your hard work that much better!

That looks great after . Great color. Too bad most new cars on the new car lot today are black, silver, or white. It's like the manufacturers are afraid to make anything but the most conservative colors. Nice turn around.
