I recently received sample sizes of BF's Sealant and Gloss Enhancing Polish and can't wait to try them out. If they work out well, then I am thinking of purchasing the full size bottles. But the only sticking point is the $35+ price tag for the sealant. So I've been looking into alternatives.

Now, as we all know, the key to a quality finish is properly prepping the surface. (i.e. claying, polishing, etc) so I've been doing a lot of research. Here's what I've found.

Poor Boy's: EXP and Pro Polish.
Poorboy's EX-P Pure Sealant: Poorboy’s EX-P is revolutionary in the world of paint sealants. poorboys paint sealant, car paint sealant, clear coat (http://www.autogeek.net/pbexp16.html)
Poorboy's Professional Polish: Now Poorboy’s Professional Polish is creamy”, making it more user-friendly and a real pleasure to apply! poorboys (http://www.autogeek.net/pbpp16.html)

Collinite: 845 LW and 840 Pre-Wax Cleaner
Collinite Liquid Insulator Wax #845, liquid wax, heat-resistant wax, car wax (http://www.autogeek.net/collinite-insulator-wax-845.html)
Collinite Sapphire PreWax Cleaner #840 (http://www.autogeek.net/sapphire-prewax-cleaner-840.html)

It is interesting (and conflicting) to note that on AG's product website for Collinite, they recommend that 840 NOT be used for clearcoats. Yet Collinite's website specifically recommend that 840 is SAFE for lighter colored clearcoats. Here are the links:

I did a search and found a thread where a member used 840 to polish out a White, clear coated Yukon. This was done back in '06.

I'm kinda wondering if maybe AG should do a slight product edit in regards to Collinite 840, since it IS clear coat friendly. It will help to clear up any confusion others may have regarding this product. I WANT to go with BFWD, but it is simply too expensive. Collinite's "Family" of products fits my budget much more nicely.

As Mike Phillips once wrote in a thread: "Synergistic Compatibility"

Just lil ol' me
:D

p.s. AG recommends Pinnacle's Paintwork Cleansing Lotion, which is about $10 more than Collie's 840.

Collinite PreWax Cleaner #840 is formulated for single stage, enamel, and lacquer paint finishes.

For clear coated cars you can use something P21S Paint Cleanser or the Pinnacle paint cleaner too...

Also, the guy working on that pickup truck never mentioned it being single stage or clear coated...
Many white paints are still single stage to this day, Toyota comes to mind..

Safe for light color cars might mean there is mico-marring, which would show on dark cars but not light

I wonder why whites are single stage. And if this means that there is no clearcoat, then I am probably better off using a non-abrasive polish? Sorry, I'm still new to all this.

I think in one of Mike P.'s articles, he mentions that the pigment in white paint is a titatium compound, at least for SS paints. He also mentions that White SS are some of the hardest paints because of the pigment. Maybe he can confirm or deny this info. It makes sense that if white paint is already hard, why clearcoat it?

I think I know what thread you're referring to. I should have it bookmarked. I'll go and re-read the entire thread. Thanks for your help!
