After a tough quarterfinal loss in Tulsa, Ok, we had just a day and a half to prepare for our hometown event, the NHRA Route 66 Nationals in Chicago, IL.

We were making our fourth straight JEGS All-Stars appearance as well as continuing our chase for the NHRA World Championship. With a fresh turbocharged ECOtec 4-cylinder on board, we positioned the Autogeek.net/ Detailer’s Pro Series Chevy Cobalt 2nd in a field that saw 45 cars fighting for just 32 spots. During All-Stars competition we were on a mission. Last year we were upset in the opening frame and were determined to redeem ourselves. Having methodically moved past our first two round opponents, we unleashed a monstrous run of 6.94 at 198+mph (in nearly 100 degree temperatures) to secure our third JEGS All-Stars crown!

With the All-Stars event behind us, we headed back into eliminations for the Route 66 Nationals on Sunday. With 3 former World Champions (’07,’08,’10) lining our path, we literally beat the best of the best to not only win the Route 66 Nationals, but our second straight NHRA Full Throttle Event and our 8th straight round win of the weekend! The win puts us in first place in the National Points standings with about a half season of racing to go.

Winning two races in two days at our hometown track, in front of family and friends, was the best racing weekend of my career and I can’t thank you all enough for helping make it happen!

Unfortunately the celebration didn’t last long. As we returned to our shop late Sunday evening we saw the destruction that 90mph winds did to our building and surrounding area. The roof was torn off in numerous places and a fire ensued. It could have been much worse, but the resulting damage is far too much to repair in a matter of days and ultimately is going to sideline us for this coming weekend. We’ll be back up and running soon and continue chasing the 2012 NHRA World Championship!

ESPN2 coverage of the NHRA Route 66 Nationals and JEGS All-Stars can be seen this Saturday July 7th at 2:00pm ET.
