Have a lot of time on my hands with the foot injury to go over my supplies and try to fill out my line up, and I got thinking:

Would love to be able to use a 3" Backing plate and 3"/3.5" inch pad on my PC 7424XP. I'd like to know if this can confidently be used safely.

I notice the page (http://www.autogeek.net/3inch-dual-action-backing-plate.html) talks about using it on the GG 3" polisher, so the answer might be "no, don't do it".

I've noticed Mike has an adapter that extends the the distance between the backing plate and the head of the device, but can't remember what video I saw it in, and if it was even on a PC. Maybe I'm just hallucinating from the medication I'm on.

Let me know what you think. Just have some small areas on my car that would really benefit from having a smaller pad line-up, but might have to buy a specialized polisher for it. Just won't be able to do that as soon.

I have a 3" backing plate for my PCXP that I use with the Optimum 3.25" MF Pads. I really like using these on thinner panels and the side mirros.

You do have to concentrate a little more to hold the pad completely flat or else it will stop rotating. You'll get use to it though. I have no issues with clearance between the housing and backing plate.

Here is a 5" backing plate notice the gap between the pencil and backing plate and notice how small it is.

Now here is the 3" backing plate. The pencil fits in there easily, so therefore this backing plate is a very small distance close to the housing. Should not be a problem in my opinion.

Also you have some extra space as you will with other pads so the backing plate won't come in contact with the paint.

I feel like an extension would make it harder to control and just more likely to tip to one side to much and stop the pad rotation.

The backing plate extension is for rotary tools only IIRC.

I use a 3" and 3.5" backing plate with LC 3" HT pads and the new 4" LC Waffle pads.

Okay, sweet. Thanks guys.

I think I'll give this a go as it is then. Really appreciate it.
