I just got my new flex yesterday and have been messing around with it and its a well built and nice machine. IT does want to walk quite a bit and exspecially on the vertical panels. I was using the 5.5 pads on the rear quarter panels of my chevelle and it was hard to handle and my arm was getting tired. I went to the 6.5 ccs pads and it seemed much easier. IT still wanted to walk some but not as much as with the smaller pads and my arm wasn't as tired. Anyone else have the same feelings about the bigger pads.

I bought mine with a kit that came with a few 6.5" pads, bought a few more to add versatility and haven't had any issues since I first started using it, except the head gets HOT lol. I agree, its probably the most refined buffing tool I've ever laid hands on.

5.5 and 6.5 work great on the 3401. Once you get the balance and leverage down, the 3401 will not walk so much.

Be careful if you're using 5.5" pads on the stock 5.5" backing plate. There is zero room around the edges.

I prefer 5.5" pads slightly more than 6.5"..... for me I tend to get better control with the smaller ones.

Yeah i'm being careful i just want to see what pad i like better. I'm not using the 5.5 pad on it if theres a chance i could contact the paint on a tight area.

I don't know if you were using the handle - IMO much easier to use without

I just did a polish on my wifes buick and i liked the 6.5 pads better then the 5.5. THe smaller ones seemed to walk more and required more work and i got more tired using them.

Try 4" pads, very easy to control.
