I have the Porter Cable 97466 which is basically the same as the 2 listed below but with dust collection. Is this all I need to get started? If not what else?

Porter Cable Product Details for 6" Polishing Foam Pad - Model # 54745 (http://www.portercable.com/products/AccessoriesDetail.aspx?ProductID=23184)

My polisher:
Amazon.com: Porter-Cable 97466 6-Inch Random Orbit Sander with Dust Collection: Home Improvement (http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-97466-6-Inch-Random-Collection/dp/B002EQ96PS/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1339384031&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=97466)

7346 and 7434:

Amazon.com: Porter-Cable 7346SP 6-Inch Random Orbit Sander with Polishing Pad: Home Improvement (http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-7346SP-6-Inch-Random-Polishing/dp/B002EQ96MG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1338952915&sr=8-3)

And both run the same RPMs as this one:
Amazon.com: Porter-Cable 7424XP 6-Inch Variable-Speed Polisher: Home Improvement (http://www.amazon.com/Porter-Cable-7424XP-6-Inch-Variable-Speed-Polisher/dp/B002654I46/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1338952915&sr=8-1)

Yeah but my sander didn't come with anything for the pads to attach to. Do they attach to that hook and loop thing I posted above?

The Porter Cable 7424xp and sander counterpart are great machines. This type of machine is best suited for the 5 1/2" diameter pads and smaller. Clicking on the links below will take you to the appropriate section for both backup plate and pads...

Welcome to AGO!

Your post specifically inidicated 'wax'. With that, I suggest getting a couple of Black or Blue LC flat pads.

Also, I suggest going with 5.5" not 6.5".

Couldn't tell you yet. It just came in the mail, I bought it primarily to restore a 15' Boston Whaler.

Just realize that porter cable won't probably get that whaler done, you'll need a rotary and a wool pad....
