I think I'm going to pull the trigger on the flex 3401 but was wondering which pads work best 6.5 or 5.5. I have a bunch of 6.5 ccs pads and ordered 3 5.5 pads for my griots polisher. I really don't want to have to spend another $35 for the backing plate for the flex.
thanks.

Flex 3401 is fine and has the power for 6.5" pads.

I purchased an extra backing plate and cut it down to 4 7/8' on a metal cutting lathe, perfect for 5.5.

I have the flex and I'm a fan of the 5.5's I do have a bunch of 6.5's, but always end up reaching for the 5.5's. I feel I have more control with the 5.5's

5.5" for me but with the FLEX 4.375" BP you should have no worries about edge rub.

I have both backing plates and consider them essential. Spend the $35 bucks for the smaller backing plate and be absolutely versatile. You can then work with peace of mind and quickly, not having to slow down and take particular care because of unmatched plate and pads. Just just mho.
