Hi Mike,

Perhaps I can get your advice in two ways.

I can't seem to get around to posting a new thread, for all the looking and checking. Replying is easy, but just how/where do you post a new thread? ...........

And now for my real question: What is the best pad set up (polish as well) for the Flex 3401, especially for heavy correction work. Also pads for the smaller backing plate?

I'd recommend the new Hybrid Pads hands down...

As for polishes, to date M105 is still the best cutting and finishing compound on the market.

You can't beat Menzerna, Optimum, Pinnacle, Wolfgang or Blackfire polishes for finishing out to a show car finish.

I use all of the above on all the show cars that we work on here at Autogeek and I think the results speak for themselves...

This El Camino has the 348 Big Block Chevy, so not only is it a very rare and cool car it's over the top with a big block. It has what are called Bat Wing fins and Cat Eye Taillights as well as the very stylish Flat Top roof.

This is a 1939 Lincoln Zephyr
This is actually a fiberglass body made off a mold made off of the purple version you'll see below called Scrape. I toured with Scrape for about a half year keeping it show ready.

1977 Can Am Corvette
This is a body kit that was popular in the 1970's in Corvette circles. This is the only one I've ever worked on and because it has a multi-color metalflake finish coupled with the cool body style it's one of my favorite Corvettes I've worked on.

Agreed and with any type of tool.


As it relates to detailing for money it won't be a combo that removes all the swirls but it should remove the shallow defects and perfectly prepare the paint for wax. As it relates to detailing for money and/or your own cars it's a safe approach that's not aggressive at all and thus won't remove a lot of the precious, thin clear paint.


Actually, any good quality fine cut polish with Tangerine Hydro-Tech pads is a very safe way to polish daily drivers for the long haul.

We also used this approach on the mostly original 26 year old clear coat on this recent Porsche we buffed out...

Backing plate - lc 4in backing plate
Pads - optimum 4.25in compounding and polishing pads, lc ht crimson 4in
Compound - m105, d300
Polish & finish - m205, menz 106fa, sonax ntpc
