Does it make any difference if all the final section passes with a DA are in the same direction?

No.
I normally lessen my downward pressure because,
Polishing paint is an art form, not a grinding process

different directions generally help in hitting RIDS and marring from different angles, thereby cutting them down faster/easier, while also making sure the entire area is covered. When doing a final polish, I don't think it matters which direction you go, as at this point, you're only trying to remove micro marring and haze, and producing the final gloss, not defect removal.
