Hello everyone! I am researching the ins and outs of running a small detailing business in the Cincinnati area. I am merely at the perusing and lurking on websites phase, and it would be just me doing the work to start. I'd appreciate hearing from those of you with experience. I'd like to know what you guys think us rookies overlook the most, and how I can get started on the right foot. Any advice?

P.S. Great website!

Welcome to the forum TuckGirl! One of my favorite places to visit is Columbus. I never lived out there but all of my close friends are out there-a few of my friends we in the Ohio National Guard and were stationed out here. They took me back one time and I fell in love with the city.

Hi Alex, I lived in Columbus for a while in the late 90s. The town has changed a lot in the last 10-15 years. I'm now relocating to the Cincinnati area after 6 years in Denver. I am going to miss the mountains!!! Andee

Hi TruckGirl, and...:welcome:...to AGO, from an Ohio member.

Don't worry about missing the mountains...IMO, Cincy has its fair share:

Busch Mountains (http://www.buschmountains.com/)

Rocky Mountain Express (http://consumer.discoverohio.com/searchdetails.aspx?detail=80435)

Blue Mountain Coffee Co - Mt Lookout - Cincinnati, OH (http://www.yelp.com/biz/blue-mountain-coffee-co-cincinnati)

Ice Mountain Spring Water - Fairfield, OH, 45014 - Citysearch (http://cincinnati.citysearch.com/profile/8131291/fairfield_oh/ice_mountain_spring_water.html)

Magnolia Mountain | Cincinnati, Ohio | Folk/Americana/Country Music | Press + Photos (http://magnoliamountain.net/press.htm)

(Results 1 - 5 of 5)#~# #~# Simple Search ~ Superpages.com: Yellow Pages (http://www.superpages.com/bp/Cincinnati-OH/Iron-Mountain-L2063139700.htm) (Iron Mountain)

-And... One of the places my Wife is looking into for my future residence:
Mountain Crest Nursing & Rehabilitation - Cincinnati Ohio (OH) (http://www.ucomparehealthcare.com/nhs/mountain_crest_nursing_and_rehabilitation/)

-There has been "The Seven Hills" comparison between Cincinnati, Ohio and Rome, Italy. (along with: Cincinnatus...A Roman General)

But, alas... Cincinnati only has valleys...
Glacier-melting created this alluvian plain (all 'hills' being of equal altitudes, as it were) of this Appliachian foothills countryside.

-So what does all of the above have in common with "Detailing? Not too much, probably.
But, irregardless...
Don't set-up shop around UofC's off-campus housing!

:D

Welcome! To add onto the plethora of "hot spots" FUNX725 gave you I will give you a couple more. Cincinnati is known for its chili (sorry Texans!). My preference is goldstar but some prefer skyline. Also Cincinnati is known for its Zoo, I believe it is second in size after the San Diego Zoo. Third, if you like to eat animals vs look at them, downtown Cincy is a Mortons Steak House. Bring the pink slip to your car to pay the bill but the experience and taste is well worth it!

Welcome. I don't detail for a living, but I would say just the fact your looking at forums like this and not starting with Armor All and Turtle Wax is a good start. I would say just take pride in your work, use decent products, and always work or your skill level. If you did those 3 things, you would already be ahead of probably 80% of the hacks out there.

Thanks to all of you for making me smile! I'll stay away from student housing, try the chili, and take a spin in the quasi mountains of Cincy. Oh, and stay away from turtle wax! (-:

If you're thinking about getting into car detailing for money here's a very well written article by one of our forum members Dave aka Flannigan, I recommend taking a moment to read if you haven't already.
