My first task was to thoroughly clean the tire and wheel. This was pretty straight forward but I wanted to ensure that the tire was very clean and the CarPro PERL took some extra effort to remove completely, I now know why it lasts so long!

Tire

I used Meguiar’s Super Degreaser diluted 1:1 water to product. Spraying it on quickly reveled it’s cleaning ability and how it quickly and effectively loosens and dissolves road film, tire coatings, grease, and grime.

Wheel

Knowing that I was performing a full restore, I used Meguiar’s Wheel Brightener to get the piece sparking clean ready for compounding and polishing.Once all the scrubbing rinsing was complete, the Metro blaster SideKick made short work of the remaining water leaving both the tire and wheel dry and ready for the next steps.

Compounding and polishing the wheel actually proved easier than I thought. These wheels are nearly 14 years old and many a hard winter, the worst Mother Nature and man can throw at them. Although I do maintain them I’ve never compounded and polished them.

I used a Mothers PowerBall in an electric drill along with Meguiar’s M105 compound & Meguiar's M205. This proved to be a great combination and before long it was easy to see the years of exposure removed and the sparkling finish came glistening through!

For tire protection I wanted to try a new product; Blackfire Total Eclipse Tire Gel. The application instructions were straight forward and it's very easy to use.

Blackfire Total Eclipse Tire Gel

Blackfire Total Eclipse Tire Gel is a light pink and creamy.

Using a foam applicator I spread it on the tire and as you can see there's a remarkable difference in the before and after.

The finished product with the wheel thoroughly coated with Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze and 2 coats of Blackfire Total Eclipse Tire Gel

Blackfire Wet Diamond Metal Sealant

Blackfire Wet Diamond Metal Sealant is another easy to use highly effective product from BlackFire. It's creamy consistency makes it easy to use and it does a great job at removing stains and other contaminates leaving a gleaming shine.

After applying, let it haze as shown.

Then buff to a gorgeous reflective shine.

Conclusions:

To say the least, I was very impressed with every product I used. They performed spectacularly leaving my trucks wheel, tire, bumper, bull bar and lights looking better then new. :props:

I really like the way Mothers PowerBall with a little compound and polish made my wheels look brand new and now they have some serious protection to boot!! :dblthumb2:

Good eyes!

I used the Meguiar's NXT Protectant for darkening the actual tread of the tire, see photo 15.

This product is very watery and while it does a nice job making anything it comes in contact with look wet it really has no durability.

If used on the tire sidewall it MUST be wiped before driving otherwise it slings everywhere making quite a mess...It reminds me of Meguiar’s High Gloss Hot Shine Tire Spray because of looks and sling but its durability is less than the High Gloss Hot Shine product ..

Looks great but why would you coat the tread in protectant? For the photo???

Exactly, looks more pleasing to the eye...

In comparison, take a look at the other photo where the tread is light gray in contrast to the sidewall...

It'll be ok, it's not a motorcycle lol. Are those wheels clear coated? I was going to pick up the powerball mini this week and use 105/205 on my clear coated aluminum wheels. The previous owner left them swirled very badly.

The wheels are factory painted and clear coated. They are in great shape and considering their age and that it's driven year round they seemed to have held up quite well.

Using the Mothers Ball and Meguiar's M105 then M205 brought back their brilliance and shine better than I can remember... :props:

I have the same style wheels on my 1997 Dakota. I have only used Mothers Plastic Polish on them several years ago and was planning on doing polishing again so maybe I will try something more aggressive.

My wheels are in good shape except for one lug nut recess where they had to remove a frozen lug nut and ended up banking up the pocket (they warned me).

My center hub caps delaminating in spots however. I am not sure whether this was weather or just one of many different wheel cleaners I have used.

Thanks Meghan, they work great!

A little mod from something I saw here and makes getting at the entire tire a breeze whether on hard pavement or grass under the shade of a tree in the backyard...:props:
