Wow. I boldly posted improperly. What a hack. Sorry.

I too am in a new car paint spot.
It's 2 months old. Sea Glass Pearl Toyota.
I have recently got a Griots 6 incher and a few of their orange/red pads.
I could just stay with their system and be easy enough I'd say.
But what do I know.
A good hard wash with detergent to remove all that's on it.
Have been using a nice Mothers wash.
Clay bar it.
A polish?
Maybe just there least abrasive.
Then a good sealant (have some WG 3.0 coming in mail)
Then their carnuba stick over that.
Would like to go with the pads I already have.
Polish with orange, wax with red.

sound ok?

Also heard that the DA would run a 5.5 pad better than a 6.5.
With proper backing plate of course. Any truth to that?

I moved your post to Detailing 101

As to your question, just because your car is new that doesn't make the paint "fresh".

Fresh paint is 30 days old or less. You can find articles on fresh paint in my article list (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-expert-featuring-mike-phillips/23722-articles-mike-phillips.html) and I just wrote an article about pads and backing plates for the Griot's, Meguiar's and Porter Cable DA Polishers.

Buffing Pads - Wool Pads & Foam Pads PLUS Backing Plates

NEW - 5 inch Backing Plates on Meguiar's, Griot's and Porter Cable DA Polishers (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-tools-accessories/48668-5-inch-backing-plates-meguiar-s-griot-s-porter-cable-da-polishers.html)

Normally what you want to do is wash the car and then inspect the paint in two good sources of bright light, think I have an article on that too...

Let there be light... (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-expert-featuring-mike-phillips/43192-let-there-light.html)
(when inspecting the condition of your car's paint)

Thanks for help in category selection as well.

5.5 is better for correction, but being you have a new car, the pads you have are fine. You bought the strongest of the DA's so you have plenty power. I would clay for sure then a light polish if you induce marring. Now if you have DISO, you probably need to do a compound then polish, followed by a LSP. Hope it helps:)

Here you go, also from my article list...

Sad to say but all to often after you're car is "prepped" by the detail shop at some New and Used Car Dealerships, you get what we all call DISO or the Dealer Installed Swirl Option.

DISO, love it.
LSP = ?

Minimum if any swirls.
Thankfully didn't get that surprise option.
Although their detail guy did tell me that he's always been able to find employment in housekeeping or food service industries.
Maybe a nice paint glaze to polish then WG 3.0 sealant and some wax.

You guys are the best! thanks!
