I submitted a question on line to Duragloss that went like this
Hello, I have a question 6 months ago I polished my 32' Gel Coat 5th wheel rv and the steps I used are as follows. 1. 652 using a rotary 2. 601 by hand 3. 105 by hand I am thinking of adding another coat of 105 ( the rv has had a cover on it since all of this was done and looks like the day I applied it). Should I 601/105 again or just 105 ?.

And the response
David, I would recommend using the 601 and 105. You can save a step by premixing the two. 4 parts 105 to 1 part 601. Only mix what you will use. By using 601 you get more protection and it helps the polish to last longer. Please call if you have any questions. 800-638-7245

That's also what I would have suggested.

Dave,

The combination Duragloss is recommending it pretty much the standard I've seen posted here many times. Richy has also recommended this and as I believe he's had a lot of success and share this with many here. :props:

I had read some threads elsewhere that stated 601 only needed to be applied once then only 105,501 there after. So I figured I would get it straight from the manufacturer so there would be no doubt. For the 5th wheel I may keep the steps seperate as I have no idea of how much to mix for 900 square feet or when I would run out of steam doing it. Any body know how many ounces would do a certain square footage ?. Kind of like if I wanted to do 400 square feet, how much to mix 601/105 ?. I know with Zaino I can mix 2oz. and do my 3/4 ton truck twice and have very little waste. Maybe I should measure the square footage of the truck and use it as a guide if no one has another suggestion.

The 601/105 stated protection for 1 year. I did not see that statement for 501 and when I used it I do not think there was anything about mixing 601/501 at that time. I have some 501 coming that I may mix and try on about a 10' section that was not done with the 601/105. I do have to admit tho that the 601/105 is going on 6 months and looks like the day I put it on. The sun in Arizona is a real fiberglass/gelcoat killer and I have been experimenting with different products trying to find something that will keep me from buffing this 32' monster every 3 to 6 months. One of the tests was with Zaino AIO and lasted maybe 4 months so I assumed 501 being an AIO probably may not fare any better. Like I stated the 601/105 stated protection for a year and that peaked my interest.

I just used 501 as a one step on a pickup I did a week ago or so (don't know if you saw the thread?) 501 is a marine polish and it lasts a long time. As a HUGE bonus, it is also a very effective paint cleaner as well. I tend to use it more for its cleaning ability than its sealant ability although it truly excels at both. The million dollar question: Which one (501 or 105) lasts longer? I suspect 105 would and I will ask Jerry his opinion on that the next time we talk. The mixing aspect you will not see in DG's literature. That suggestion came to me directly from Jerry a few years ago during one of our talks and I tried it and was so happy with the results that I have been sharing it ever since.
Now, when you mix them, Jerry advised that the mix may not last well in the bottle. My experience has been (and I've been doing this for a few years now) is that the mix will THICKEN but the performance of it remains unchanged. I use a cheap, dollar store plastic ketchup bottle for a dispenser. I just shake it up and it's good to go. It's not so thick as to not come out the dispenser. My point in telling you this is not to be afraid to mix up even more than what you think you might use. It won't go to waste! 601 can be mixed with both 501 and 105 for immediate curing and/or topping.
I think that answers everything? Please post your results/opinion on using it! I'd love to hear!

Dont think I've used one. What's the cut like? If it's an equivalent of white LCC or B & S then you're good.

I have a 10' section that I did not 601/105 that had/has Zaino AIO on it last and has some minor oxidation. I have the Duragloss 652 prep but what I have is minor and usually the AIO's will clean it up. Question time.
Should I mix 106/501 and do the cleanup or just use 501 then use the 106/105 on top of that or just do like I did the last time and use the 652 prep with the orbital then apply 601 and 105 ?. Shine is not a factor here but it is a bonus. Durability is what I am looking for. I can buff vehicles all day but staring down the beginning of 32' long 12' high fiberglass knowing it is only one side has finally taken it's toll on an old body. When I was researching the Duragloss products the conclusion was that 105 had the highest durability out of them all and the 601 increased that by some where around double. The 501 did not seem to match those numbers and I assumed it was because it is basically an AIO and in my experiences the AIO is ok but not as good as the pure products.

Cuts just below an orange, but supposed to finish like a white. I'll give it a shot.

David, don't forget 501 is a marine sealant. It's not advertised as a paint cleaner, it just happens to be a great one too. If you are planning on doing 2 steps back to back, I would suggest 501/601 followed immediately by 105/601. Lots of protection there!

Thanks Richy,
Guess I will do a little more experimenting. I have a 10'*12' section to try some methods.
