View Full Version : Can these scratches be removed?

Ok The first time I washed these wheels (OEM Ford wheels, non-clearcoated I think), I used too much of a stiff brush and put a lot of very fine scratches in a couple of them. I'm a bit afraid to take a buffer to them for making a shine on what appears to be a satin or matte finish.

Here are the pics, yes those are chips but they are being repaired, paid for by the tire place that installed new tires and did this during the alignment check which I did not ask for. What I'm looking at right now is the micro-scratches on them, best seen in the 2nd picture.

If the repair isn't to my satisfaction they will be replacing it. What I'd like to know is there anything , product/pad combo that I could work with the fine scratches at all?

However the first one is what they look like from a distance (for reference).

Now the cringe-worthy pics:

Could using your favorite polish followed by an IPA wipe down be the answer to your dilema?
Also, I can't imagine that these OEM wheels are not coated...but I've been proven wrong time and again on the forum.

I thought they would be coated too, I know there is a low gloss clearcoat but I don't think these are. I am pretty much thinking if they are not it won't be long before they will be looking pretty tatty.

Looking at the chips it looks like there are at least 2 layers but they both appear to be black. This wheel also comes in a gunmetal metallic with a clearcoat.

I wish I knew. Maybe the wheel repair place will know.
