Dear Mike,

I've got myself a Maguiars DA Polish Machine and Im loving it :) easy to operate and easy to remove swirl marks.

Anyway, I'm just wondering are these form pad compatible with my DA polish machine? or these pad is for rotary machine?

The first two can be used with a DA or a rotary...the third is recommended for rotary only according to the product descriptions.

I have no expeience with these pads so I can't say how well they work or if the cutting pad can be used with a DA without causing trouble.

The 7 inch size may be a little too big for a DA though.

Hi Kenny,

First welcome to the AGO forum, the best on the Internet...

Second, as others stated, "yes" you can use these pads on both DA Polishers and Rotary Buffers as these are the dual markets Meguair's designed these pads for.

This same question about the cutting pad came up in this thread,

http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-101/49009-little-advice.html

Here's my reply,

My pads are all Meguiars - the burgundy cutting pad, yellow polishing and black finishing.

Thanks for the help.

Meguiar's doesn't recommend using their maroon foam cutting pad with a DA I know because when I worked for Meguiar's I wrote the warning.

That said, when I wrote the warning I also wrote a caveat that says if you're going to use it with a DA to test it out on section first. The reason why is because the foam is so aggressive it can remove the defects but leave DA Haze or what's called micro-marring behind.

This is actually normal but it can freak-out some people if they don't have any experience. Meguiar's likes to keep things "Bubba Proof" for people, especially newbies so that's was the reason it was never officially recommended for use with the DA.

Fact is, even if ANY pad leaves micro-marring, if you're removing the deeper defects it's no big deal because you're going to come back and re-polish anyways with less aggressive pads and products and thus remove the micro-marring.

Newbies would freak-out and STOP and then call Customer Care and blame the problem on the products not understanding that's how clear coat paints and polishing procedures then to work.

So as long as you're educating yourself by posting to this forum and getting information like in my reply you're going to be okay...

Hi Kenny,

My article list is kind of long but there's a lot of informative articles on it. I recently wrote a brand new article just for your last question because ,

This topic comes up all the time
We're entering the busiest part of the detailing season
Definitely add a 5" backing plate and 5.5" thin pads to your detailing arsenal, you'll be able to do all your correction work much faster and much more effectively.

Here's the article, it's under the bold heading I've included...

Buffing Pads - Wool Pads & Foam Pads PLUS Backing Plates

NEW - 5 inch Backing Plates on Meguiar's, Griot's and Porter Cable DA Polishers (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/auto-detailing-tools-accessories/48668-5-inch-backing-plates-meguiar-s-griot-s-porter-cable-da-polishers.html)

When you get a chance check out my article list (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/ask-expert-featuring-mike-phillips/23722-articles-mike-phillips.html) as I have a lot of articles on DA Polishers plus about any other topic you might be interested in...
