Done with a rotary, D300 and a green pad.

:whs: did you do this? Or did someone else? I thought D300 was formulate specifically for the MF system and a DA polisher.

I thought holograms are only caused by wool. I didn't know foam can also cause holograms. Yikes.

Holograms are at their core scratches...

So ANYTHING that can cause a scratch when applied using a rotary buffer can leave holograms including any type of fiber pad and even foam pads.

I'm guessing this was the coarse green pad? I've used D300 on foam pads with great success, but with a Flex and DA.

This was CCS Green Polishing/Finishing Foam 4 Inch Pad with 1200rpm's. The clear was so soft .. the holograms were inflicted in no time. I find D300 to be very interesting compound, a bit milder then 105 but still powerful and has way more working time. Easier wipe off too.

As you know, holograms of this sort look horrible, but can be corrected easily with a DA.

I'll post more photos tonight; the plan for attack is - 3401, 50/50 of D301&205 and probably the same 4" soft pad.

The car was previously Washed and clayed. Its a 17 years old car.

I didn' notice the holograms until the door was completed + in the shade it,s hardly visible.

the guy's shared and admitted his mistake and wanted to share the laugh in a place where holograms are frown upon. was it a failure? yes. it's ballsy to to this in a detailing forum. i know i wouldn't do what he just did. :D is it that bad to fail? i think even the best made mistakes especially in the beginning. as i always tell my fellow noobs in detailing, everyone starts knowing nothing. it's all about learning and improving.

maybe danube wanted to try D300 with a rotary and foam pad. i read few people having success with ultimate compound with rotary. it's just it didn't work for him. it's a relief that he didn't do permanent damage and he can finish it good with a DA. i bet he learned finishing rotary work with a DA from Mike Phillips.

@mate, better post a picture after you fixed it and share a picture of how you did it.

I'm glad he did share this. That kind of thing happens very quickly with some BMW and Porsche paint. I saw a flannel shirt put scratches in Porsche paint.
