1 Put up thread.

2 Keep thread up until a winner is announced.

3 Immediately close or lock thread.

4 One week after announcing the winner remove thread completely.

5 Result? A nice uncluttered Car Care Product Giveaways forum. With active or "winner announcement" threads only.

I would agree about locking certain time based threads (like the 2011 Detail Fest shirt one).
