My name is fprintf and I am completely new to vehicle detailing. I live in the Northeast US, Connecticut to be exact, where we have had a very very mild winter. As a result my wife and I made an impulse purchase, now that our kids are teenagers and we don't need to haul them around so much anymore, and bought a new Mazda Miata (MX-5) Special Edition. It is white pearl with a black roof, wheels and accents. They will make 450 of them in this country in either this color or red this year. Anyway, we love it.

A bunch of pictures that we've been keeping others apprised of various things about the vehicle are here: 2012 Mazda MX-5 Special Edition - Imgur (http://imgur.com/a/OrSJi)

I'll be posting a thread in detailing 101 or other places. It is a brand new car and has pretty good paint, except for some typical new paint roughness that apparently needs to be clayed out.

I just purchased over $300 worth of stuff from AutoGeek and plan on using it next weekend including Meguiars clay, two kinds of Klasse, and a new toy to apply it, a PC buffer and all kinds of pads! Then I am not sure what we'll need to do except enjoy it!

I am new to detailing, in fact my cars are usually filthy. I have, however, always taken care of the paint by carefully washing our vehicles with a one bucket method and microfiber cloths. Sponges or plain towels never touch them. The two bucket method is something I've just learned, as well as what grit guards are for. So from now on it'll be two bucket washes and really taking care of things. I just took care of our 2003 Mini Cooper S from a winter accumulation of dirt and it looks fabulous, no scratches for a 8 1/2 year old car is pretty good. We intend to take care of this Miata perfectly from the start.
