And I had a few questions I'm hoping you guys can provide me some insight on. The truck in question is a 2 month old Super White Tacoma. Here we go....

1) I currently have my truck waxed with Meg's Ultimate Carnauba. CanI apply the 845 right over it?

2) If not, should I also clay the truck after removing the Megs?

Thanks in advance!

You could layer it with no problems. But for best durability I would strip the Meguiar's Ultimate Wax and clay. Then apply 845. Remember to apply very thin!:dblthumb2:

As long as the truck is washed and clean you can, keep in mind car waxes are sacrificial barrier coatings that wear off as the paint it "touched", so unless you waxed your truck yesterday it's safe to assume some level of what you previously applied and left behind on the surface has already began wearing off.

In a perfect world, if you want to get the best performance out of any protection product you would prep the paint in some manner, the simplest being to use what's called a paint cleaner or pre-wax cleaner.

Feel the paint with your clean bare hand after washing and drying or wiping your car's finish clean. You can also inspect using the baggie test.

As for claying, there are two camps on this topic

Camp A: It's safe to clay paint and then go straight to wax or a paint sealant.

Camp B: Claying can scratch paint and you should only clay if you're also going to machine polish the paint after claying.

I just gave the below thread a blue clickable link and moved it into the "Hot Topics" forum. Take a moment to read through it. I have some comments on the topic and there are some great comments by other forum members too...

When I apply Collinite 845 I do it with my Porter Cable 7424 dual action polisher using a blue or red foam pad and a speed setting of 3. Applying it in this manor allows me to keep it super thin and ensure complete and even coverage...

PS - I apply 98% of my sealants and waxes using this method.....:props:

Waxes like Fuzion, Pinnacle, and BlackFire I like to apply by hand, it's much funner that way.....

Me too... I actually try to do all steps by machine and get my hand completely out of the equation...

Just a heads up, got the Taco Collinite'd today thanks to your assistance. Due to the fact that my Taco is my daily, is white, and is parked outside in the elements, I felt the 845 was the best product to ensure good protection of my finish.

Started off with some Meg's Ultimate Polish (been dying to try this stuff out) on my Makita. After I finished, I used the baggy test and found some spots that required a little clay. Wiped the whole car down with BFDG spray and then proceeded with the application of the 845.

I put the 845 into a spray bottle after getting it as liquid as I think it gets, and did light coats while hitting it with a finishing pad. The application/removal were a piece of cake. While the 845 finish is not as glossy or as slick (to me) as the Meg's Ultimate carnauba I had on there, I feel that there is a better layer of protection and that it'll definitely last longer.

Wanted to give a huge thanks to all who responded to this thread and made my life easier. Mahalo!

Glad it worked out for you! :xyxthumbs: I feel that the 845 will gain slickness as it cures. I have noticed that at least.

-I'm glad your order of processes/products worked out for you.
-The order of my 'steps' differ a little bit from yours, though.

Also:
-Were there any claying-scratches in the paint after your step (2.) above?
-Why did you use BFDG before the 845 application?

Thanks.

:)

My inexperience surely played a role in why I did what I did, but heck...it would've been worse had I not read some of the stuff posted. LOL

1) No scratches. Found a little bit of fallout on the roof and on the center/front of hood. Claying was minor.

2) Figured it would help get the polish off cleaner. Was that the wrong train of thought?
