What to charge?

One of my regular customers asked me today what I'd charge to wash and wax his camper. It's 42 foot long and it really good shape since it's only about a 1 year old. It would be an exterior only job washed and wax. I told him I would have to think about and that I would get back to him. I also explained to him that it would take at least half a day, but more like a full day. It has a very swirls from brush washing, but I don't plan to do any correcting on it. I would like to just wash and wax w/ a quick wipe on wipe off wax that has a some fillers to help w/ swirls. Any ideas on what to charge and opinions on what type of wax? Thanks!

thats alot of work atleast $250 but i would start at $325. see what he says. dont go lower than $250.

The problem is what if it takes you like 20 hours.
Very hard to raise your price after the job is done because you could not figure out how long it would take.
You might want to tell him it would be between 300 to 500 or somthing like that.
He may have 10 people that he knows that would jump at a price that was super low.

I would go for a higher price to make sure you make money and remember if you get every job your prices are to low.

Some people might not look at it this way but it works for me

And find two people who can help you.

:iagree: 250 is about 6 bucks a foot. You need to talk him into a sealant like AIO or DG#101 (last longer) and #101 is so easy. $350

This is what I could get in my area. Now in your area, you may be looking at more money.

$8 a foot comes out to $320-330. I would roughly ballpark him there. $8 is cheap IMO but the rig looks pretty decent. All the shops (not mobile shops) get roughly $6-7 a foot. I quote $8 due to my service.

Guys around here get around $15 sq./ft. I cannot handle doing one of those by myself. I have a herniated (sp?) disc in my back.

LOL I over-heard a conversation one day, and I figured it out... $12-15 a foot. That's $500+.. about right, around here.

P.M. Justin. he has done some RVs and will give you a better advice. It all depends on where you live, and prices around you.

back when i used to detail for a living i just went ahead and turned down rv work...money to time spent ratio was just not worth it. in the time it took me to do an rv i could have done 3-4 cars and made out with more money and less back breaking work. the biggest problem with rv's is that 90% of the work is done on a ladder and it hard to "plant" yourself with good footing...your back will not thank you for the money...
