Pictures From Detailing Boot Camp Day 2 (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/pictures-saturday-detailing-101/45784-pictures-detailing-boot-camp-day-2-a.html)

Here's a couple pictures from day 2 of Mike Phillips' Boot Camp. It was an excellent class full of students that were eager to learn. On Sunday Mike demonstrated how to machine polish using Meguiar's Microfiber System and Optimum's microfiber pads on a DA polisher. After removing all the swirls from the Corvette, Cquartz was applied to one half and Opti-Coat 2.0 to the other.

While half the class was machine polishing the Corvette, the other half was learning how to damp sand on a couple black hoods that Mike had set up. After completing the Corvette and learning how to damp sand on the test hoods, the class polished the Carry-All to a flawless, swirl-free finish using Pinnacle polishes and a variety of DA polishers.

Thanks to everyone that joined us last weekend for Mike Phillips' Detailing Boot Camp. It's always a treat being a part of Mike's classes and meeting a new group of auto geeks.

Sorry, I know this is a little off-topic, but I see you were running a pneumatic sander, do you folks have a compressor room elsewhere in the building (that perhaps provides air for other equipment, as well), or were you using a fixed or portable compressor right there in the studio?

May not be exactly my place to do so...But I remember this from a recent/past question about AGO's Show Car garage.

From this thread:

Plenty of air power for DA Sanders...

Wow, that looks nice, seems like it's a screw with integral dryer (although I don't see a condensate line, unless it's that black hose that seems to be going into the garbage can), quiet and in another room anyway. Thanks FUNX, I'm always curious about how people do their air systems, and those IR's used to be made here in the US, too, hopefully still are.

They are. They are manufactured right here in North Carolina.

Thanks for getting these pictures up Nick, they really show just how diverse these classes are with everyone having the opportunity to try all kinds of products, pads and procedures including machine dampsanding and using a rotary buffer to remove all your sanding marks.

This picture here actually shows one section of the paint compounded and polished after dampsanding with #3000 Unigrit, the paint is totally clear and all the sanding marks were removed.

Very impressive. The reflection in that picture speaks volumes about how much paint can be improved with even a mild wet-sanding. This past September I assisted a buddy's friend with a mild wet-sand. His vehicle had nice paint, but he noticed slight orange peel in some areas. We did a comprehensive 3000 grit wet-sand, and a 3 step with Megs. The finish was better than factory new.

Hello fellow Boot Campers. I have the images of all of you receiving your certificates from Mike Phillips. If you would like the image file I can send it to you. Also let me know if you purchased a book and Mike autographed it. I didn't get all but, I got most of the inscriptions. Best way I can think of to do this-PM me sending the following info, identifying yourself from the picture below, tell me if you purchased a book and include your e-mail address.

Example-"front row 1st. left Max, certificate and book max@superdetailer.com"

Let ne know. Hope to see you at Detailfest.

Umm...I can see why people might want to have a picture of themselves receiving their certificate from Mike Phillips, but for the life of me I can't figure why someone would want a picture of the inscription from their own book, can't they just open it up if they want to see it, or take their own picture?

But the people that went to the class have their book with Mike's inscription in it, in Mike's writing...why would they need a picture of it from you? Never mind, I guess I just don't understand the new math. Very nice of you to offer the graduation pictures, though.

Because that's what they want. No further explanation is needed beyond that. :dblthumb2:

Thanks again to everyone that attended, and thanks a million to Fred for grabbing so many excellent pictures with Mike's camera. :applause:
