I am new to the forum so hello everybody. I purchased a new 2011 Benz GL450 of course its black. Does anybody know if there band is soft or hard? When the weather breaks here in Chicago I want to detail it out. I have Liquid Glass pre-wax cleaner, Liquid Glass polisher. I am ordering all my stuff from know on here and I ordered the detailing art book last friday. After I clean it I am going to clay bar it then seal then wax it. Whats the best wax for black cars/suv's? I have always used Liquid Glass since high school and i'm 38 now, I always use it polish all my windows inside and out on my vehicles I have owned. I am going to order the Flex PE14-2-150 AND XC3401 kit. i will have a lot of cobra microfiber and much more. If I was closer, I would love to do things hands on with Mike Phillp's myself.......Well thanks for reading and I love this site!!:dblthumb2:

Welcome to Autogeek from another Chicagoan (Northern Suburbs - Fox Lake area).

Congrats on the new ride!

Looks like you've done some research on what you need and want to get from Autogeek! :props: I see you plan on getting the Flex PE 14 Rotary. Have you used a rotary before?

For best wax you will find many different answers, even for the same model car and color. "Find what you like and use it often". Since yours is black I will throw in my vote for some BlackFire sealant and wax...

BLACKFIRE Wet Diamond All Finish Paint Protection, paint sealant, synthetic sealant, blackfire sealant (http://www.autogeek.net/blackfire-wet-diamond-sealant.html)
BLACKFIRE Midnight Sun Ivory Carnauba Paste Wax, car wax, auto wax (http://www.autogeek.net/blackfire-midnight-sun-wax.html)

If the wax is out of your current price range, maybe some Dodo Juice or Pinnacle Signature Series II.

Pinnacle Signature Series II Carnauba Paste Wax will give you a deep, wet finish will exceed your expectations. car wax, carnauba paste wax, pinnacle (http://www.autogeek.net/pisisepawax.html)
Dodo Juice Blue Velvet Hard Car Wax, carnauba wax, dodo waxes, dodojuice, wax for dark vehicles, dodo car care products, blue car wax (http://www.autogeek.net/dodo-blue-velvet-wax.html)

Welcome again! Let us know where your at in Illinois and someone might even live close enough to help hands on if you ever need or want it.

I have not used any rotary, I have always done by hand. I am going to go to victory and pick up some fenders and quarter panels to practice.....I have a friend of mine up in Ringwood that has a detail shop that can give me some pointers as well.

Are you planning to detail other cars besides the GL450? A 2011 will probably not need a rotary. You would be better off with a Flex 3401 or just a DA like a Griot.

:whs:

Meguiars 105 & 205 will work well for you on this particular clear coat. Top it with Liquid Glass if you like the looks it produces

If i want to get into doing more cars as i get better I prefer getting nice equipment to work with. I am going to friends cars and SUV'S of course not for free. I have a 2011 black GL 450 and my wife has a 2009 black BMW 650i drop top. I have some work to do already. I am ordering the Mytee lite 2 for doing carpet etc then steam clean leather seats.
