Were these scratches too deep to remove?

Used my PC for the first time today, though I've had it for a few months now. My boss side swiped his garage pillar with his Tundra. The scratches were pretty deep, my fingernail catches in em. I gave it a shot with the PC, Ultimate Compound, and Ultimate Polish. The PC7424XP vibrates intensely, is this normal? My hands were about to fall off and got tired so quick. Another thing is, I bought about 8 pads when I bought my PC7424XP, is it normal for them to discolor when I haven't even used them once?

Anyways heres the before and after, you guys think more can be done, or are they just too deep to remove?

It's a little hard to tell from the pics, but I would say those scratches are into the primer, which means you aren't going to be able to "fix" them unless you build them back up with touchup paint. If they are in the primer, if you keep removing paint until you are down to the level of the scratch, you will be down to primer on the whole panel, which is probably not what your boss was looking forward to.

I would stop now, it looks a lot better than it did, and you are still employed.

When you said your fingernail catches in them I thought to myself, "good luck!" before even seeing the finishing pics........ this is beyond the use of a polisher - polish to your comfort then touch up with paint and clear - or repaint the entire panel (depending on obscenity of owner).

It's tough to tell...but some of those look too deep to me.

Those look much too deep. And from what you wrote, it sounded like you created a heck of a lot of heat! Be glad that you did not go trough to the primer! Cut your loses now and do not go further. That is my opinion.

Yep! Too deep to be removed via polishing. You'll need to use touchup to improve the look. But overall, you seemed to do a great job on removing most of the scratches, Just don't go any further with polishing.

Yeah, I told him I didn't want to go any further in trying to remove them. He wanted me to use this 3M Rubbing Compound another co-worker brought, I straight up said hell no to that. Just wanted to make sure, nothing else can be done, except touch up paint or a repaint.

I can vouch for it.

I used it to fill the rock chips on my hood. Color match is perfect and it looks good from a few feet away..

I say that because despite what the pictures make it look like, it does not completely fill in the chips. More or less "paints" the chips. Atleast that was my experience anyways. Just gotta do it till it builds it up.

For that though I dunno. I'll let someone else chime in for using it on scratches.

Yes it does work. Here's the trick to make it look as perfect as possible.

Fill the scratches in using multiple coats of paint, layering every coat after the previous coat has dried. Continue to add the paint, even a little above the level of the original paint surface. Let dry completely. Then wet sand newly applied paint to level. Buff using your favorite polishes. Carefull not to go so far as to go thru the clear/paint on the original paint. It might be pretty thin from previous polishing. Good Luck!

Well I got another call from my boss, telling me to bring my PC again... He scratched his Tundra on his garage pillar again!!! This time the scratch was on the rear quarter panel.
