I was over in the tool forum and received a lot of good advise. I think I have settled on my initial order. Please let me know what you think. My main question is about the backing plate. 1. If it work with the GG DA and if it is a good one? Through my many hours of research I have seen several times that the right backing plate is critical. 2. Should I also buy a different polish for a better finish than the M205? The 2 vehicles I will be working on is a 2008 Black F350 and a 2012 Black Explorer. Both paints are in good condition. Thank you for your time and as promised here is the initial order. I am past my budget so if anyone has recomendations on additional items if you could also state what I would could replace.

I would replace the CCS pads with flat pads instead. You want to maximize the working area of your pads when you're using the (relatively) smaller 5.5" pads on a DA.

Looks like a nice selection. But it also looks like the beginning of a bad habit, RUN now while you still can ;-)

:iagree: get either the LC Flats or the hydrotechs. I haven't used the flats yet, but from what I hear, they last longer than the hydrotechs. The thing with the hydrotechs is that you should change them out very often as you are polishing. I'm thinking at the least 4 hydrotechs should be sufficient for mid sized sedan. Others may chime in on how often to change them out. I would also get the 4" spot buff pads and backing plate as well. Reason I say get the flats of hydro's is that with the CCS pads...its takes alot longer to break down the product. You get a nice cut and finish with the flats.

With the pads, do you have hand wash them or can machine wash them. Do you need the cleaning supplies for them?

Alot of people do both...I haven't machine washed mine yet but I will probably do so in the future. I use the following products to maintain my pads:

I'll fill up a bucket with about 3 gallons of hot water, and mix in a scoop of this stuff:

http://www.autogeek.net/dp730.html (http://www.autogeek.net/dp730.html)

I use this during machine polishing. I'll spray a couple of squirts of the pad cleaner and clean the pads using Mike's "clean on the fly" technique. When the pad feels alittle dry, I’ll use the conditioner:

http://www.autogeek.net/xmtpadcacofs.html (http://www.autogeek.net/xmtpadcacofs.html)

With the above, you might as well go with the three pack and pick up some of the XMT 360 spray wax…I HIGHLY suggest that stuff:

http://www.autogeek.net/xmt-series-bundle.html (http://www.autogeek.net/xmt-series-bundle.html)

For cleaning the pads on the fly, I suggest you go to TJ Max or target and get you some good quality towels. Regular terry towels will put lint in the pads. Every so often I’ll use a pad brush while the machine is spinning. But be careful and use the every so often with light pressure. Its hard enough to use this with a DA but if you barely touch the pad, it will be sufficient when cleaning the lint off the pads.

Hand wash. I just use APC and hot water.

Thank you on the pad cleaning suggestions. Any recomendations on the back plate? I know I need a 5", just want to make sure the one I am ordering will work with GG DA and is a good one. Also should I order another type of polish in addition to the m205?

The backing plate you chose will work perfect. You could add some PO85RD, but on most paint 205 will finish good enough to not need another step. I would wait and see how 205 works for you first.

Unless you already have them you will need a whole lot more microfibers than just 3.

I think you have an excellent shopping cart. :xyxthumbs:

As for the flat vs. CCS pad debate, I personally prefer CCS pads but go with what you think will do you the best job.

Can anyone else weigh in on the CCS vs Flat pads. Anybody know what the advantages of both are?

ccs pads will trap the product reducing heat and keeping everything lubricated.

the flat will not retain the product quiet as fast because they are more dense.

there is a couple differences for ya.

For what its worth it seems its all about preference. they will both do what you need them to do. I bought both and plan on using each to see what I like. they have characteristics unique to their own. its a matter of choice as to what you want and want to give up.
