CeriGlass question

I'm wanting to pick up some CeriGlass on my next order, but I'm not sure which glass buffing pads to get: glass cutting pads, glass polishing pads, or both? What's the difference?

I was wondering the same thing the other day. Was going to order both. I would imagine CEEDOG might have something to add as he just reviewed the product. He commented that hand application was slow and that using a machine he used a higher speed then suggested. Wonder if a different pad would have helped?

Lake country calls them cutting pads and Griot's calls them polishing pads - essentially the same thing.

I would go with the 5" so it works better unless your machine cannot go that small.

LC calls them cutting pads because glass is super hard and needs a strong cut. I'm sure the Griot's pad have a strong cut also since they are made for glass.

The griots are offered in both 6" and 3". I have the 3" and have only used them with the griots product. I can see no difference in why one sz might work better then another unless small corners came into play.

Griot's Garage, Porter Cable, other Dual Action polishers may not be powerful enough to run a 6" pad. With a 5" pad it will easier to polish glass.

If you have a flex DA or rotary a 6" pad will cut no problem.

I think my Griots and my Megs have enough power to smoke a 6" pad without a problem. Lack of power or brut torque is a problem these new generation da's don't suffer from.

I said it may have a problem. I have read many times where a new Griot's, Meg, PC have problems with compounding with 6.5" pad. Since glass is tough to cut that may be the case. The 5" pad may get it done faster.... it may not. One thing, I do know for sure is a Flex 3401 or rotary will get it done faster with a 6" pad verses the other DAs. So I would choose a smaller pad.

UPDATE:

The LC cutting pad is for heavy swirl remover (compounding). Follow with LC polishing pad for final polishing/finishing with Ceriglass.

But it is odd that they are different sizes... Hopefully someone can clarify.

I recently did my windshield and I posted this

I found the LC Glass Cutting Pad hard and awkward to work with, so I did most of the work with the 5.5" LC Glass polishing Pad, which is the one I recommend after trying both.

Also CEE DOG posted an excellent full review on Ceriglass. You should definitely have a look there as well. I don't think you will have any unanswered questions...
