So Mark Z-oh-6 sent me a small bottle of the new OPT finish polish new formula to see how it works with soft paint compared to 85RD since thats my go to stuff with my super soft mustang.
So i started out with this as the before with it polished with 85RD

I used a Crimson HT low profile pad like I do with my 85RD for the test..I primed the pad the exact same way..used the machine on speed 4.5 and did 3 passes with med pressure and 2 passes with light pressure.
Here is how the paint looked after the new OPT finish polish

It didnt finish out to well on soft paint. It is easy to work with. The consistency is much thicker then 85RD and its a blue color. Has no real smell and it wipes off very easy.

I then went back over the same section with my 85RD with 3passes on med pressure and 1 light pass

so looks like 85RD still is king for finishing out beautifully on very soft paints.

Thanks again to Mark for sending me the sample to give it a go.

Great write up! Thanks for taking the time to show us this. To bad about the poor finish of the finishing polish....

I have no doubt that you are correct. I just thought Optimum would make the new formula a little closer to 85rd.

with how good all their other stuff is I think they should look into making a polish for soft paints like this because I bet if they get it right it will be great.

Completely agree. If they did make such a polish it would probably end up being my go to finishing polish. Especially, if it was a spray.

Nice comparison 05xrunner. I have one question though. Did you strip the paint of oils before taking the pictures? I only ask because I know that 85rd can cover up light swirls.

Thanks!

Yep I cleaned it off. Cause when I first looked at it with my light before the pic I could see all the polishing oil left smearedaround

nice review. I have a honda accord and the clear is very soft as well. I just purchased Opt finish polish and Menz 85rd. Time to test it.

It is very tough to beat 85. Looks great after the 85... :props:I do have a question. Are the new OPT polishes water based? I am assuming they are since you used a HT pad. The other OPT polishes I have used don't seem water based but I am not really sure if they are or not. Perhaps Chris can chime in??

I'm surprised you haven't OC'd that super soft paint as yet...

I have thought about it but I just never committed to doing it. I like the bfwd and midnight sun combo. The car is a garage queen so it doesn't get beat up by elements

I pretty much had the same results using the new II series on black BMW. I thought it looked pretty good until I did half the hood with Blackfire polish. Which is a Menzerna product so it's probably really close to RD.
