Thank goodness for Porter Cables and #105

Short version of the story: I'm a moron:mad:

Wife goes to leave for work, van battery is dead. Van is back into it spot, car is backed into the garage. So of course this puts the batteries about as far away from each other as you can get....

So of course being in a hurry to get the wife on her way I'm rushing and cut just a wee bit too close and catch the passenger side mirror of the car on the garage, and you all know that sound!

Get out and this is what I find (sorry cell pics).

So I grabbed the PC, 105 and orange hex logic padded and am hoping nothing more than paint transfer.

After about 2 minutes

That's not a mark left, just glare or something.

So glad it was just a little paint transfer, no broken parts at all!

WOW, just realized I really need to get a q-tip out and clean the inside of that mirror housing..

Nice! Glad that came right off. Most of my customers hit their mirrors or side panels pretty often. The good thing is that they are usually always paint transfers. That buffs right out! :buffing:

WOW, just realized I really need to get a q-tip out and clean the inside of that mirror housing..

Use a foam paint brush whilst washing :autowash:

Took a week off from work to do my first full correction and protection on my car. Later in the week, after completing the final wipedown, I grabbed my camara, raised the garage door, started the engine, put the car in R, and eased out the clutch. The car wouldn't move because the brakes had rusted. When the brakes broke loose it made a loud pop and the car jumped backwards. In that instant there wasn't time to check garage door opening to mirror clearance. CRUNCH! Driverside mirror was gone. No amount of machine work could have fixed that.lol

Ouch Indeed!!! I almost backed up instinctively but noticed the edge of the mirror was overlapping the garage door, had I not noticed that, this would be an entirely different post!

When seeing your first picture, I thought no way did that buff out. But, wow, was I wrong. You have inspired me to try that on my wife's Impala front bumper.:props:

I guess it sitting longer than a day after the last wash was the problem. I've washed the car at least 60 times and this was the first time it stuck that hard. Lesson learned.

D.Acker - thanks for starting this thread and showing what can be done. I decided to try my Megs UC and a foam applicator to see if I could fix the Impala bumper. What I thought was scuffed up plastic from the wife bumping a Dodge Ram turned out to be paint transfer.:dblthumb2:

I thought about starting with either meg UC or 205, but figured go with 105 and be done with it.

That fixed up nice! Hey I've got a bit of an off topic question, I noticed on your bumper you have a 905 sticker. Where I live there are a bunch of mustangs attending shows with stickers like that on their front bumpers too, is that to do with a car club or an online community type thing? Just a curiousity of mine!
