View Full Version : Is there a way to fix the 'suede' on my seat?

The buttons on my jeans and just wear and tear has resulted in the fake suede inserts on my seat getting a bit balled up and crappy looking. How would you 'fix' this? Is there a razor of some sort that can be used to cut off the balled up junk?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like "fabric pilling". Instead of a razor...You could try the Oreck Fabric Shaver, or similar appliance, that may be useful for this situation. Use with care.

Just a suggestion.

I'd be interested to know this answer myself. I know of nothing to fix that...

I agree. That's what I would try first

I agree... try one of the electric trimmers for removing fuzzies and pilling on clothes.

Suede looks cool, feels cool, sure is a nightmare to work on when there's a problem and even work on to maintain.

I would avoid cars that came with it personally...

Vinyl, leather or normal cloth seats and black leather being probably the easiest, longest lasting and easiest to maintain an normal appearance on.

Sandpaper.

I used my 3" Griots DA and a 1500 sanding disc and it removed all the pilling.

Here is a link to some pictures on SVT. This person used 1000 grit.

Page two has the best pictures of the results. They are not my pictures or post.

You could try a facial hair trimer. I used it on a section of my headliner

Thanks for the link! Looks like some 2000 grit sand paper is all it'll take. I think using a DA is a bit of overkill, since those guys just hand-sanded. I'd be worried about going overboard with a machine - DA or otherwise.
