Cut comparison between Meg 105, D300 & UC

The compound/polish chart on this website needs to be updated. The chart shows 105 as having a 9 cut (out of 10). Those of you who have used all 3, how would you rate these three products? 105=9; D300=7; Ultimate Compound=5? I recently used UC, which I like, but it took too long to correct the paint.

M105 cuts the most, then D30o, then UC. they are all fairly close. If M105 is a 9 I would say D300 is an 8 and UC is a 7-7.5. UC and D300 both tend to finish better than M105, but most of the time all three of them will need to be followed up with a finishing step.

All that said I'm basing my opinion of D301 only on using it with the MF cutting discs, not foam pads.

I need something that cuts better than UC and so was debating whether o get 105 or D300. I have never used either but have heard that 105 is difficult to use, dusts a lot but has excellent cutting ability. If I went with D300 I assume I'd have to get the specialized cutting discs? However, if D300 and the Meg cutting disc only cut a little bit better than UC with 5 1/2 LCD orange flat pads and then it isn't aggressive enough for me.

D300 and a cutting disc will do almost as much as M105 without all the annoying things that come with M105 (dries up, dusts, won't wipe off). but yes, I would say to get the MF discs if you go with the D300.

That's what I want to hear. What's the longevity of Meg cutting discs? I haven't been too impressed with the orange foam flat pads when it comes to longevity.

Also, can I use my LC 5in back plate with these discs or do I need to get Meg back plate?

some have had issues with the velcro backing separating from the pad, but I don't think it's a huge issue with all of them. as for the face of the pad there are some people that have had the original ones from testing for well over a year with 20 uses. I don't think longevity or durability is an issue with the MF pads.

Looks like I'll be getting the Meg cutting discs and D300 for my spring detail. Thanks for the replies. I detailed my car this past weekend and was frustrated by how long it was taking to correct with UC and an orange flat pad. Seems like D300 might be the way to go.

You can use your current BP.

I said the same thing and sometimes use the LC BP for the job but found a tidbit of info about why megs recommend their own (and not for profit reasons).

Meg's BP is actually made by Velcro (brand) and same goes for their pads. On another forum Kevin Brown goes deeper into explaining more than what BP to use with the Megs pad but why, the cut, the temp etc also.

I've never had a problem using my LC backing plate with the pads, and I've always gotten the desired results. I personally think it's all just marketing to buy their (more expensive) backing plate.
