I'm thinking I may need to consider getting into detailing as a side business or something. I had one guy driving by stop and ask if I detail for a living, had to say no. Then the people across the street came over and asked what I would charge to do the Expedition!:buffing:

LOL! I normally don't work so close to the street, nor have I ever had anyone driving by stop and ask.

Oh and I forgot to mention, we are performing a little experiment on the hood and trunk of the Sentra. The hood we divided into 4 sections, on the passenger side I did 2 coats of Griot's Garage Best of show wax, next over 2 coats of Meguiar's Gold Class paste, next section 2 coats of Mef #21 sealant, the drivers side is one coat sealant, layered with Griots. The trunk is sealant topped with Megs GC. I can't wait to see what section holds up he longest. My guess is one of sealant/wax combos.

Trust me, I would have loved to! But since I'm not insured for this type of work, my luck, as soon as I touched someone's car that wasn't a friend or relative, something would go horribly wrong and I'd be screwed!

Oh and if anyone is wondering why it looks like the front\rear bumpers and engine maybe didn't get much attention that's because they didn't. Rear is getting replaced and front repainted. And the engine is probably getting replaced (burning 1qt\1000 miles)

It's me and Murphy and his blasted law love me!

I'm doing a 1980 LTD for a buddy in the next couple weeks. A bit nervous since I've never worked on anything that old, and have never seen the car before. But it's only got 36,000 miles on it, so hopefully that's in my favor. If anyone has any suggestions for that, I'm glad to hear them.

With 36k miles, it makes me wonder if the car may have been garaged for a long time? That would definitly help

Mike wrote a great article on restoring old single stage paints without removing as much paint using the traditional method a.k.a. Rocks-n-Bottle plus Wool :) Have you seen this article?

1980 LTD's were AWESOME!!! :cruisin:

Then the people across the street came over and asked what I would charge to do the Expedition!:buffing:I had the same exact experience when I did my first full exterior detail for pay actually. Two neighbors of the customer I was doing work for walked over and asked about pricing and for a card. Unfortunately I didn't have a card at that point but I'm actually going back to do the customer's other vehicle and this time I will have pricing sheets and cards to go around so I suggest you do the same if you're thinking of making it a side business.
