Can someone explain a couple things for me? Being I am in the Snowbelt, should I be using a sealant AND a wax or can I do just one or the other? I was hoping to just do the wash, clay, polish, and wax route. I am going with Collinite 845 for my wax.

To answer your question......no, you do not need both when using Collinite but two coats would be prudent.

The reason some layer is to get the longevity of a sealant with a look they prefer from a carnauba. As 845's longevity is about as good as it gets I see no reason to top it or layer it on anything. I've been using 845 for 30+ years and have yet to find anything to match it's combination of looks, durability, longevity and price point. YMMV.

I agree with TL. 845 last longer than any sealant I have ever tried. So maybe just two coats of 845 and you will be set!!

I also say you'll be fine with just the 845.

Plus 3 on the 845. But if you want to add something after the 845 cures, put a coat of 476S on it.

:iagree:

Think of Collinite 845 (2-thin coats), as the ultimate sealant. You can ask for nothing better. Save your money on buying additional sealant. Use it to stock up on ONR.

845 is their least protective wax:

1. No.476s – most durable protection/weather defense. Most elbow grease required during application.
2. No. 915- 2nd most durable and slightly easier than the 476s to apply/remove. No. 915 lends our warmest shine to dark tones like navy and black due to its highest concentration of rare carnauba.
3. No. 845- easiest of the 3 to apply/remove with slightly less durability than the No. 915.

And if I have a choose a sealant or a wax for 1 coat protection a sealant would win hands down; the technology and chemistry of todays sealant is superior.

I agree with everyone else 2 coats of 845 would work wonderfully. But I prefer (just personal preference), a sealant under my 845. I have Menzerna Power Lock topped with Collinite 845.

Either route you take will be fine :)

Good luck!

I'm doing menzerna powerlock topped with collinite 915 on both of my black vehicles to protect against the iowa winter.

I'm not sure if you need both, but I feel a little better. :)

Given your car's color, you might want to consider 915. 845 leaves a very bright, glossy finish, which might not be what you want with a black car.
