Sorry to drag up old threads but do you need to buy the Karcher suction hose in order for it to draw water from a static water source or would any garden hose do?

Thinking about this...

Amazon.com: Karcher Modular Series 1550PSI Electric Pressure Washer With 20-Foot Hose, K2.28: Patio, Lawn & Garden (http://www.amazon.com/Karcher-Modular-1550PSI-Electric-Pressure/dp/B00336EUMC/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1373570861&sr=1-1&keywords=karcher+k2+20ft)

Bringing up old thread may show that you SEARCHED before starting a new thread OVER - So that may be a good thing....Now a regular garden hose will collapse and strain your pressure washer and may cause internal DAMAGE so you want a suction hose, hope this helps and others chime in

I have a new Karcher K5.540 that refuses to siphon water from a standing source (the only reason I bought it). How much suction are these things supposed to have? I've tried all of the suggestions here along with common sense and this thing has absolutely 0 suction. I tried calling karcher as well and they were completely useless, I'm already in the process of exchanging it with amazon but I wanted to make sure i'm not missing something blindingly obvious?

So my 2nd K5.540 arrived today and it also does not siphon water, it has 0 suction. This thing is a ridiculous piece of ####! I should have listened to this other guy on amazon: Amazon.com: N.Prince's review of Karcher X-Series featuring the Industry's ... (http://www.amazon.com/review/R1M1L90AUNP4P7/ref=cm_srch_res_rtr_alt_1)

Do NOT buy this unit if siphoning water is a feature you need. Now i have to box up two of these pieces of #### and return them to amazon.

Karcher 4.440-238 Water Suction Hose with Filter (http://www.pressurewashersdirect.com/Karcher-4.440-238/p1415.html)
I had to put KARCHER HOSE into standing water container and used the 1960's method of siphoning gas from a car,lol then once water reached top of hose I connected it to unit (pressure washer)

Which karcher unit do you have? I've tried priming both my k5.540's multiple different ways and they don't suck water from a standing source (bucket). If I fill a hose with water and hold the hose in the air both units will pull that water in, but only if it is being gravity fed. That is not how karcher advertises it should work as seen here: Karcher X-Series 2000 PSI Pressure Washer - YouTube (http://youtu.be/5HxKVkU2lvc?t=1m37s)
