There's an old saying that goes like this,

"Like dissolves like"

So yes, it's possible M205 could dissolve or remove the old dried compound because they are 'like" type products.

Is it all over the car? Like in someone compounded the car but never wiped the residue off? Or is it residue in the cracks and crevices? Like seen here,

Tape it off and avoid a lifetime of ugly... (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/tricks-tips-techniques/29951-tape-off-avoid-lifetime-ugly.html)

Here's the ugly part...

Because the bottom side of the sheet metal where the slots are stamped out are rough and jagged, all the compound and polish residue that was splattered by the rotary buffer has embedded like cement and will be very difficult to fully remove, especially now that it's a few years old...

in my experience IPA works best. 1:1 distilled water and 91% rubbing alcohol. you could try apc. Using car wash and towels don't seem to remove residue very well and neither does quick detailer when its baked on.

Most compounds are water soluble so washing can work but it will work best if you can really saturate the compound with water, as though the car were sitting in Oregon rain for a week...

Sometimes it dries like concrete and if it's in a place that's hard to reach a pressure washer will usually blast most of it out.

Thanks guys! I did someone car a month ago and didn't have enough time to look over it.

So I'm thinking about bringing maybe solvent, M105,M205, and few pads. He said that there was some compound left on the bumper and other places on the car. But he had trouble removing it with a wash and clay.

Cleaner wax will likely soften it right up and it will easily wipe away. It has always worked for me.
