So, my Makita came with a large backing plate and I ended up with an assortment of LC 8.5 pads to start working with. Obviously the challenges of working an entire car with such a large size made themselves obvious quickly. I liked being able to cover the large areas quickly, but the nooks and crannies were, well, unpleseant to say the least.

I know the simple answer here is, get another asortment of pads and plates and buy 2 sizes. Unfortunately I have to budget this purchase with all that I am planning on ordering I have to decide on one plate and one pad size. Should I go medium, or all the way down to the 2 7/8 plate so I can get the smaller pads for those really tough to reach places??

Honestly, I thought I was able to hit most of the car fairly well with the 8.5s, it was just those really tough spots that I had an issue with.
