On August 24th (Wednesday) myself and another forum member (and his father) will be doing a multiple stage paint correction and interior detail for the purpose of training, learning, getting hands on paint correction and interior cleaning experience for my visitor's detailing business startup. I have found a donor car for the day that will be transformed from a severely neglected mess into a beauty of a car.

The car is an early nineties dark green Honda CIVIC that is completely riddled with swirls, scuffs and oxidation. The interior is a mess right now as well. We will be removing the pinstripes and having at the paint using my visitor's polisher of choice (Flex 3401) for all the steps beyond the cutting step which will be the rotary polisher and the beta product sent to me by AG. This car should make for a great "extreme detail" I'll be testing out a new heavy cut product that was supplied to me by the nice folks at Autogeek.

Any suggestions as to what methods should be tried on this car are welcomed in this thread. Additionally, if there are any other newer detailers here in the Harrisburg PA area that would like to be a part of this training day of sorts, please PM me and you will be welcomed to attend.

I'll get pictures of the donor car today and try to post them up this weekend. Thanks in advance for any interest or suggestions offered to this thread. TD

Well as I said, this car has been severely neglected and probably has all the possible paint defects that a detailer could come across. I figure it would be no real help to have a real nice car to detail for this day of training/learning. Here are some photos of the car that we will be working on.

Not sure you will need a heavy cut compound for Honda paint, but it will be interesting to see the review.

What polishes and pads do you have on hand to try out?

Do you have a paint thickness gauge?

For exterior plastic trim, give Meguiar's PlastX a try at restoration before coating them. (Would love to see this :))

What interior products do you have or plan to use?

I live in York. Really wish I could join you but that is the day my daughter moves into her college dorm. I will keep an eye on the thread though. Great car for teaching on. It appears to have a lot of the issues that need correcting on a daily basis.

I remember you did this for someone else not long ago, and you traveled on your dime. This world really needs more people like you. Your selflessness is to be commended. My hat is off to you Dave!

Thanks Dave. This is actually the same forum member but he will be traveling here to get some further experience. Let me take a minute to remind you all to not forget the near 100 hours that Michael13 has spent designing and helping me work on my yet to be hosted website. This is not a 100% selfless thing that is going on here. More of a bartering deal actually.
