I was thinking about getting a canopy for my side detailing business. Those that are using canopy's what are you using and where is a good place to get one from? I searched and found a previous thread where several have mentioned E-Z Up canopy's. Amazon has some fairly cheap. I saw some in Sports Authority today. Let me know your suggestions.

What kind and size do you have? I want to be able to use it to detail cars and suv's.

I recommend 1 12x15 or 2 10x12's or 2 8x12's.

I have 1 12x12 and there's always 3 ft hanging out in the back.

I got my 12x12 at sports authority for 200$ (steel). Keep in mind depending on design larger than 12x12 can be difficult for one man to erect.

:iagree: My 10X10 really isn't big enough, most of the day the sun isn't directly overhead so most of the shade is off to the side. I bought it for some shade while at ATV parks but have used it in my driveway to polish my Dad's car but I had to keep adjusting the car.

i have a shadetech 10x15 and its 2ft short for my 07 Tahoe but better than being 7' short on my previous 10x10
go for it man, they are def worth it .. keep in mind that depending on where you start you could get some exposure of sun on the side or front/back ... I just reposition or move the car to the other side

How tall is the main question for me.. I have a 10x10 that is probably 9ft high on the sides, and maybe 12ft tall in the center. I want a 12x12, but it seems every one is like 7ft tall on the sides which isn't high enough for some trucks and suvs. Anyone have an idea of where I can pick one up like 12x12x10-12? The one I'm using will work for now, but I'd prefer even more shade if possible. Thanks!

I recently purchased an "Undercover" 10x20 all aluminum canopy which I highly recommend. For the longest time I had been using those inexpesive EZUP's from the sporting good shops that just did not give me enough shade. So I started doing some checking around and online I found this awesome unit which came with a rolling bag as well. It also came with a mfg 5 year warranty, EZUP only came with a 1 year warranty. Even though its large, and it sets up at almost 12ft high... no more buttons to push and pinched fingers, this units has some unique levers for adjustments, one person can easily put this up and take it down, weighs in at about 70lbs.....all this for under $450.00

Unless you only work on Smart cars and Mini's the 10x10 is useless. As the others have all said bigger is better and too big is just right.

That's very nice! Is it seriously easy to put up buy yourself? No dragging one leg while trying to open another?

OP, the one I mentioned earlier is tall enough for the only van I've done with it but if I were you I would take the plunge and spend twice as much for a 20 footer like this as long as it's easy to erect.

I have an ezup 12x12 that for the most part I like cause it takes 45 seconds to put up. (I timed it since I have no life) it sucks to have the butt of the vehicle not covered though but I work with it. It really is helpful. I found that it was too short for SUVs and trucks so I did this...

Set it up normally, then I bought 4 aluminum angle 3/4 x 3/4 x 3' pieces from home depot along with 4 screw clamps.

I marked each piece at where to clamp and now I can get 11' of clearance.. It works great but I really wish the 12x12 was more like 16x16.

It is also great to have here in Florida when your doing a black leather interior in a parking lot with no shade.. It can give you 20 minutes longer before you pass out.

thanks for the replies guys, these are excellent suggestions. Thanks for the pics as well. I will have to do some more research. For the time being, I will be detailing cars at my fiance's house. I'm not equipped to go mobile. But I wanted something to be able to wash a vehicle in the middle of the day, if needed, and no have to worry about the sun. I wanted to also be able to machine polish outside.
