Okay, so I recently got an order in from AG and I am looking forward to trying out some new products. I applied Meguiar's Ultimate Liquid Wax about 6 weeks ago. Today I washed the my car with DG901, did my first clay bar application and would like to apply UPGP tonight.

I used Meguiar's Clay Bar Kit with the Ultimate QD. My concern is that I need to ensure that all of the wax is off. I thought for a next step I could wash the car with Dawn and see how that works. (I have read that is effective).

Beyond that I have a Meguiar's Cleaning Wax that came with the clay bar kit and some Meguiar's Ultimate Polish. Will either of these take off the wax and prepare my car for the sealant?

Are there any other OTC products I could pick up that would be a better option? I am planning another order this weekend through AG so I will pick up some better options but I am kind of knee deep into this project now! :)

Thanks in advance for your time!

Best,

Chad

The clay should have removed all the wax.

Last week I ordered the Griots Garage paint prep (it was on BOBO)
Griot's Garage Paint Prep, Griots Paint Cleaner, Prewax cleaner (http://www.autogeek.net/griots-paint-prep.html)
You might also try the Griotes garage pre wax cleaner

+1 for the Paint prep. Got mine as well. I will be stripping the wax off my car in October in preparation for the winter months.

The clay should have removed all the wax.

Will the Meguiar's QD cause problems with the sealant adhering to the paint? The car right now is looking pretty glossy and feels smooth to the touch. Didn't know if I should do another wash with Dawn to make sure that is off as well.

Thanks!

As mentioned, your clay should have removed all the previous wax. But if you have SINCE claying then yes, that will be a barrier against the sealant bonding up nice. I think the jury is out on Dawn, but yes it should remove the QD you have been using...but the Griots Paint cleaner, and Paint prep are great. I am fan of these prods to make the final work last longer. Good luck on it. BTW, follow the sealant recco'd details...most require some bonding time. :xyxthumbs:

Thanks for the insights! I put two coats of UPGP on this weekend and was very impressed. Can't believe how glossy it is. I will likely try to follow up with some wax in a couple weeks just to see how it changes the overall look.

Great..now put some regular spray on wax or detailers to add a sacrifice barrier on top. My guess is with the heat we are having in much of the nation, that your wax is going to soften during the day, and then trap the "dusty bits" when cooling off at night. The surface may not be as smooth in a week or two as you thot it should be. I keep mine clean at end of most days. The sacrifice barriers on top of your wax will keep the coats you put on intact a bit longer. Great job...congrats.:props:
