The plastic wiper cowl on my F-150 was faded out, and last year I decided to compare Poorboys Trim Restorer to Black Wow which can be found in this thread.

Poorboys Trim Restorer and Black Wow Comparison

Both products held up reasonably well, but the Wiper Cowl was back to it's original faded out self after roughly 6 to 8 months and I wanted to try out something new to see if I can get any better durability.

Current Condition.

So this year I decided to pick up some of the new Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant (http://www.autogeek.net/wolfgang-exterior-trim-sealant.html) to see how well it holds up in comparison to the PBTR and BW that I tried last year.

I first cleaned the cowl with Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus (http://www.autogeek.net/meguiars-all-purpose-cleaner-plus-d103.html) and then rinsed clean and let to fully dry in the sun. I then taped up one side so as not to get any product on my paint or glass and proceeded to coat the one side of the wiper cow with Wolfgang ETS.

Wolfgang ETS darkened the plastic fairly well, but I had to go over the plastic a couple times with product during application in order to get an even looking finish. It seemed the dried and faded out plastic kept wanting to absorb the product so I had to keep applying more.

Both sides completed.

Tape removed and let to fully dry. It seemed to dry a little bit lighter after sitting for a while.

Wolfgang ETS did not darken my faded wiper cowl anywhere near as much as Poorboys Trim Restorer or Black Wow did in my previous comparison review, but overall Wolfgang ETS did a decent job and left a nice natural looking matte finish.

I will try and update this thread periodically to show how the Wolfgang ETS is holding up in the long term.

Looks good! Thank you for sharing it with the rest of us as well Brian! If ETS holds up like UTTG does you will notice its darker after 1 month than those other products were after 1 month.

:updated:

2 week update.

It has now been 2 weeks and 2 washes since applying wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant to the badly faded wiper cowl of my truck. The temps over the last few weeks have been in the 90's with several days hitting over 100 in the shade (unusual for us). Way too HOT!! for me. :surrender: So the coating has definitely had a workout. I did keep the truck in the garage as much as possible though on the really hot days.

Here are a few pictures to show how the Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant is holding up so far.

It does not look too bad. Maybe a little lighter than it did when I applied it 2 weeks ago.

It still looks fairly good from this angle also.

When you start looking at it closer at different angles though, you can start to see that it is indeed fading already. You can see the blotchy look to it in some areas.

A closer look at the fading blotchy areas.

I also noticed that the plastic seems to mark up fairly easily with this coating on it. While I was looking at it I noticed a few white marks on the plastic, so I took my fingernail and lightly ran it across the plastic in a squiggly pattern and this what it looked like. (just an observation).

I know my wiper cowl was really faded to begin with and this is not a trim restoration product, but I was kinda hoping for better durability than what I am seeing so far. Maybe my plastic was just so dried out that it soaked the product in and I need to re-apply another coat to maybe saturate the plastic a little better to get more durability out of it. I applied 2 coats initially 2 weeks ago.

Just a question-

If you think of this product as a 'sealant,' would you get a better result putting it on top of a restoration product?
Perhaps something to try out.

Otherwise, very informative review!

I'm not sure, but I've actually thought about doing that very same thing. I just have not tried it yet.

I think I'm going to leave the Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant on it's own there for a little while longer to see how it continues to hold up before I try applying Black WOW or Poorboys Trim Restorer and then topping with Wolfgang Exterior Trim Sealant.

Brian, I'm surprised at your results.

It depends on the restoration product. It will work well with some and work against others.

So am I. I was hoping for a little better results. Maybe my plastic is just too faded?

Corey, have you personally tried this with anything?

Wow, that faded fairly easily. You should compare with UTTG.

Yea, Maybe I will someday. I'd hate to buy it and have the same result though.

Get some water spot remover (acid) and scrub with a toothbrush. Rinse clean and apply dressing. It's all in the prep my friend just like doing paint.:props:

I've used WG ETS by itself and over C4.
I've used UTTG by itself, over PB TR, and over C4.

UTTG works great over C4 and does not work well with PB TR. PB TR and UTTG work better by themselves than with each other. My friend Tad used UTTG over a different product. Can't remember if it was Black again, Black, Wow, Fade to Black or something. It was something Black and it worked well for him. The ----Black restored and the UTTG went over it and lasted for months... like 3 or 6 or more.

Heres a pic with ETS and UTTG over C4 3 weeks after they were applied and months after the C4 was applied.

I hear ya.

I think they're very similar, but maybe not?

I have very little left of UTTG, or I'd send you a sample.

I scrubbed it as best I could with APC before application, but I did not have water spot remover. I may have to look into that. Does AG sell such a thing?

Thanks

AG sells Finish Kare acid cleaner which should work.
