No issues when I used my Meg's MF System. In fact, I'd say that the pads stick to the backing plate like glue. Possibly you got a bad backing plate?

Sounds like you overheated your backing plate at some point and caused the velcro to melt or fail....

shiny its not over heated, its weird because i got the megs 3 in backing plate and that thing hold my 3.5 in pads like glue, now the 5 in backing plate sucks with the cutting discs they get to a point where you can almost blow them off lol, on the other hand the finishing discs stick like glue on the 5 in pad, its pretty frustrating when the pad is flopping around... i cant say the BP is defective because the finishing disc stay on there so the pads must be defective them selves...

There are a few of cases on another forum where this has happened. The people have contacted Meguiar's and I believe Meguiar's has fixed the problem and sent them a new backing plate or pads. I can't remember what the problem was. I just remember somewhere on a different forum there was 5 or 6 cases of this.

How old are these 5" cutting pads?

I did notice that on the first batch of them I received right after they were released, the attachment surface was a bit different than it is in the later batches -- the embossed "M" and "DMC5" script were almost completely non-existent.... so I suppose that could be the issue as well.

I never had any issues with mine, in fact they're still in use; but that doesn't mean it can't happen.

No issues with the backing plate or pad sticking to it, but I did have this happen today while polishing the roof of a clients car:

This happened to me once, the pad went flying across the shop, i love these pads man but i find myself trying to get them to stick. One thing i can tell you is, dont go over speed 4.5 with cutting discs because the heat will cause them to tear apart, since i have stuck to 4-4.5 its never ripped up on me, especially when using m105 it produces more heat. some one also said that too much pressure on these pads reduces cutting ability because of the flattened mf fingers.
