Cool setup for sure Mike but the question that begs to be asked; does one pad washer perform / clean better than the other?

The System 2000 really only works well for cleaning wools pads when using a rotary buffer. You need the rotating power of the pad on a rotary buffer to drive the water pump wheel.

The second and third plastic spurs, together with the water pump wheel do a great job of cleaning gunk off the fibers of a wool pad and also fluffing them. I ALWAYS re-clean and fluff the pad using a steel spur AFTER first cleaning the pad inside the pad washer for both types.

I can't say that one cleans wool pads better than the other buy my opinion is overall, the System 2000 does a better job of cleaning wool pad.

Put it this way, I have both in the garage and when I need to clean wool pads I use the System 2000.

The benefit to the Grit Guard is the opening in the grate design of the Grit Guard insert allow for particulates and gunk to fall through and settle to the bottom while with the System 2000 there are two holes or slots for particulates and gunk to fall through. The stuff coming off the pad also moves off the plate and into the water as it slings out to the outside wall of the bucket while you're using it.

Two comments...

1. I alway spur my pads so anything left of a wool pad after using either pad washer has a second chance to take a flying leap off the pad.

2. In all the years I've been using the System 2000 Pad Washer I've never had any swirl problems related to the design of the tool. So for me the design is a non-issue and I really like using the System 2000 for cleaning wool cutting pads.

At this weekend's classes, I'll try to have students use both with wool pads and rotary buffers and post their experience.

Could all just be personal preference but that goes without saying when it comes to some aspects of detailing.

Below pictures to show everyone what I"m talking about are from this article,

How to adjust the Pad Cleaning Plate in the System 2000 Pad Washer (http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/wool-foam-buffing-pads/22460-how-adjust-pad-cleaning-plate-system-2000-pad-washer.html)

The Lake Country System 2000 Pad Washer

This pad washer works with rotary buffers for cleaning either wool or foam buffing pads. It uses a 9 plastic gears, one of which is also a water pump to inject cleaning solution into the face of the buffing pad to help loosen and remove residues off the pad. Eight other plastic gears act to gently agitate and loosen product as well as fluff the yarn fibers of wool buffing pads.

If you look in the pictures below you'll see a gray colored larger gear separate from the smaller black gears. The holes you see in the gray gear act to bring water to the face of the pad when you place the buffing pad against the gear and bring up the RPM's of the buffer..

It was a little snug going in but an easy task overall.

This video shows the grate design of the Grit Guard Insert which allows any particulates or gunk on your buffing pad to drop through and then sink to the bottom. Works like of like a squeegee...
