Iron X Meets Neglected Civic

I got together with a friend of mine after work yesterday and did a little polishing on his poor Civic that had only been washed once in three years. This car has never been garaged and sits outside 24/7/365.

The paint was faded and chalky on all the horizontal panels, and splotchy on the vertical panels. Overall it was in pretty rough shape and needed a little TLC. Unfortunately my camera died shortly after washing it with Iron X, however I did get some excellent bleeding shots.

I've used Iron X on several different vehicles and I've never had it interact as quickly as it did on this Civic. Immediately after spraying the surface it started to change color.

If you're not familiar with Iron X, it's a iron remover that decontaminates paint and wheels. It opens up the pores in the paint and allows the removal of ferrous iron particles. If you're working on a neglected finish or a vehicle that sits outside 24/7, Iron X should be an essential step before claying or polishing.

Whoa. What color is the Iron X? That's a fair amount of product, and if the color indicates a conversion, a scary amount of fallout.

Iron X turns purple/red when it interacts with iron particles. :righton:

Nick, was there a noticable difference in the feel of the paint after using iron x?

This product is on my list, however I believe most of the black spots on my paint is due to tar and not metals.

I would like to see someone clay one half of a car like this then do a 50/50 comparison with the IronX.

Very little difference in feel after using Iron X because the paint was already chalky and dull from being oxidized.

I used Iron X Soap Gel on my daily driver a couple months ago and I did notice a difference in feel after completing it. My daily driver is in pretty good shape with no oxidized paint.

Remember Iron X does not replace claying. Claying will effectively remove embedded contaminants while Iron X is designed to decontaminate the paint by opening up the pores and releasing ferrous iron particles that clay normally wouldn't remove.

I do know that claying is still required....I just think it would be a neat test! :)

I really wish I would of bought ironX with my last order. I just bought a 2002 sebring, its oyster white and it has rail dust everywhere. Clay will remove it, but its takes forever. I keep on claying and claying to get these little specs off. I have tried megs ulimate compound and surbuff pads but that doesn't take the rail dust off. I can rub the same 12x12" section with clay for 10mins and still have some specs. I am using mothers clay+onr as lube.
