I really haven't used diminishing abrasives all that much, so I'm not quite sure about the whole breakdown part. If buffing a 2 x 2 section, generally speaking, how many section passes are needed to break down the abrasives thoroughly? Maybe this isn't even a legitimate question considering there's a lot of variables, but I found myself doing 10 section passes because I'm not sure. That takes way to long, though.

once the product becomes clear its been broken down. when i use diminishing abrasives (i.e. wolfgang) it usually only take about 6 passes while on a rotary like 4.

IME, 6 passes on the DA - 4 heavy, 2 light. It doesn't go clear, but when it starts to dry out, wipe off. If you start to get dusting, you have worked it too long.

I haven't used Power Finish, but I have used 85rd. It goes on hazy, once it turns clear, stop there. Some colors show this process better than others. Try it on a dark colored vehicle so you can get a feel for the time it takes to breakdown.

Good question cause I was using SIP and PF this weekend and was having trouble with them.. IMO M105 gave me less head aches... IDK

IME Diminishing abrasives take a little longer for the product to flash. When the product turns clear its ready to stop.

When you say clear, do you mean the product is no longer visible, or "most" of the product looks clear?

You can still very much tell the product is there, it just turns clear instead of milky white.

Anytime Mark. Sometimes I have trouble seeing this transformation on some colors, when that happens I usually do the 4 heavy and 2 light passes too.

I agree with the 4 hard section passes and 2 soft ones just using the machines weight, on rotary 3-4 passes depending on speed and pressure, sometimes I rather use a DAT system than a SMAT, well at least power gloss over 105 with rotary because it dries way to fast with me using 105 with wool..

I did a white car with PF (had just normal overhead lights) and basically worked it 4 passes and then swiped the polish to see how cleanly would remove. This was my first PF use finish and it seemed to need some wiping to remove -- not just easy off say like M205 (which I also used).
